Piquet hoopt op dezelfde behandeling als Alonso

Nelson Piquet begint op 29 maart in Melbourne aan zijn tweede seizoen in de Formule 1. De Braziliaan debuteerde vorig jaar in de koningsklasse van de autosport bij Renault en verdiende met zijn prestaties contractverlenging. Voor 2009 hoopt Piquet dat hij gelijke kansen krijgt als teamgenoot en tweevoudig wereldkampioen Fernando Alonso.

Ik denk dat het dit jaar zwaarder wordt. We zijn op een punt aanbeland dat beide rijders dezelfde kansen moet krijgen. Met de huidige testreglementen is dat echter wel een beetje lastig. Het aantal kilometers is beperkt en we mogen maar met één auto rijden. Hoe beoordeel je dat? Hopelijk mogen beide coureurs evenveel testen.

Vorig jaar was mijn debuutseizoen en moest ik nog veel leren. Daarom was het logisch om Fernando af en toe de prioriteit te geven, omdat hij meer kans maakte om te winnen of vooraan mee te doen. Ik denk dat het team nu hun kansen over beide autos moet spreiden en proberen beide coureurs gelijke kansen te geven. Het tweede jaar wordt zwaarder, aldus Piquet.
