Fernando Alonso: "Ik wilde niet testen"

Voormalig wereldkampioen Fernando Alonso houdt wel van een geintje. Dat bewees hij in antwoord op de vraag van F1Today.nl waarom Alonso niet liever zelf de nieuwe auto als eerste aan de tand voelt. Zijn teamgenoot Nelson Piquet mocht de eerste twee testdagen voor Renault voor zijn rekening nemen. Ik heb geen zin om stil te komen staan.

Het team gaf Alonso de kans om de eerste dagen met de nieuwe wagen te rijden, maar dat aanbod sloeg de Spanjaard met plezier af. Ik heb het team gevraagd of ik de derde en de vierde dag mocht testen, zodat ik zelf niet stil kom te staan, aldus Alonso met een brede grijns op zijn gezicht. De aanwezige journalisten konden er wel om lachen, zelf kon de snelle Spanjaard ook een brede glimlach niet onderdrukken.

Tot nu toe was de keuze van Alonso de goede; woensdag kon hij in prachtige weersomstandigheden veel kilometers rijden en de R29 flink aan de tand voelen. Echter, dinsdag viel teamgenoot Nelson Piquet stil met motorproblemen, waardoor hij zich genoodzaakt zag bijna de rest van de dag toe te kijken langs de zijlijn.
