Nelson Piquet: "De R29 behoeft nog veel verbetering"

Met de R29 in de huidige staat wordt het voor Renault heel moeilijk om in de buurt van Grand Prix-zeges te komen. Dat kan worden opgemaakt uit de woorden van Nelson Piquet. Aan Autosport vertelde de Braziliaan dat de auto in Melbourne zeer moeilijk te besturen was en de Franse renstal wacht nu al de moeilijke taak van een inhaalslag.

Piquet: De auto was heel losjes in Australië. Vergeleken met andere autos zag het er heel slecht uit. De wagen ging alle kanten op, was heel moeilijk te houden. De R29 behoeft nog veel verbetering. Ik weet zeker dat alle teams werken aan progressie, waardoor het heel moeilijk is om stappen te maken. Renault is in ieder geval 24 uur per dag bezig om ons verder naar voren te brengen. We zijn niet het meest kapitaalkrachtige team, dus moeten we zorgen dat we het geld aan de juiste dingen besteden.

Ondanks de sombere constateringen die hij uit Melbourne meenam, heeft Piquet toch hoop op een beter weekend op Sepang. Laten we afwachten hoe het zich ontvouwt, dit is een beter circuit om te oordelen. Albert Park is niet mijn favoriete baan en ik worstel daar altijd. In Maleisië moet het beter gaan. Het circuit is langzamer en het oppervlakte is gladder, dat is meer geschikt voor de R29. Ik wil me in de buurt of zelfs voor Fernando Alonso kwalificeren. Dit is een goede test voor me.

Ik hoop niet dat dit seizoen de berichtgeving omtrent Nelsinho en Alonso enkel betrekking zal hebben op het feit dat de Renault F1 niet competitief genoeg is ...

Daar had ik het vorige seizoen eigenlijk al genoeg van. Natuurlijk met uitzondering van de laatste paar races waarin Alonso liet zien dat hij toch wel competitief kon zijn.

uh de laatste 4 grandprixs waren toch min of meer geluk

Singapore: Nelson crashed, Fernando komt daarvoor precies binnen.

Japan: Hamilton en Massa waren op een onjuiste manier bezig met wereldkampioen worden

China: niet echt gezien

Brazillië: Daar heeft ie wel wat laten zien

Fernando Alonso is mijn tweede favoriet, maar ik denk dat hij beter snel naar Ferrari kan toe gaan.

Tja ik geloof ook wel dat die Renault niet het racemonster is waar ze op hadden gehoopt maar laat Piquet die auto nu eerst maar eens op de baan houden voordat hij er over gaat zeuren. Piquet\'s crash werd dan wel uitgelegd als een \'remprobleem\' maar opvallend is wel dat dit gebeurde net nadat de safetycar naar binnen ging (beter opletten met koude remmen/banden etc.) en dat uitgerekend HEM weer zoiets overkomt. Ik geloof niet in die jongen.

  mee eens is niet wat wordt niet wat! en voor allonso morgen...? dan moet deze wel zeer veel last van zijn oor ontsteking hebben.:p
