Piquet ontkent ontevredenheid over rol binnen Renault

Nelson Piquet ontkent dat hij zich negatief heeft uitgelaten over zijn rol bij Renault. Van een vermeende positie van tweede rijder en een voorkeursbehandeling voor teamgenoot Fernando Alonso is volgens de Braziliaan geen sprake en hij is uitermate gelukkig bij de Franse renstal. Zijn woorden zijn verdraaid door de pers.

Piquet zegt in een verklaring: Ik ben verbaasd hoe mijn woorden misvormd zijn door de media. Ik probeerde grappig te zijn, in lijn met de vraagstelling. Het is jammer dat ik nu moet uitleggen wat ik gezegd heb. Ik ben een zeer gelukkig lid van het ING Renault Formule 1-team en heb een hele goede relatie met iedereen, inclusief Fernando en Flavio Briatore. Ik heb geen enkele reden om te geloven dat ik een oneerlijke behandeling krijg en ik twijfel niet aan de steun die ik van het team krijg. Ik heb vertrouwen in een goed seizoen samen en ik kijk uit naar de komende races waarin alle aandacht uitgaat naar het behalen van een zo goed mogelijk resultaat.
