Renault was tijdens de eerste twee races ver verwijderd van de kampioensvorm die het in 2005 en 2006 had. Na de goede eindfase van het vorige seizoen stegen de verwachtingen rondom de Franse renstal over de huidige jaargang, maar tot nu toe voldoet de R29 niet. Coureur Fernando Alonso houdt hoop, hij vertrouwt in de ontwikkeling van Renault.

Absoluut, antwoordde de Spanjaard op de vraag of hij denkt dat Renault zich kan herpakken. Ik geloof in dit team en we zagen vorig jaar dat ze weten hoe ze zich moeten verbeteren en hoe ze een auto sneller kunnen maken. Het is nog vroeg in het seizoen en iedereen doet er alles aan om de R29 competitiever te maken zodat we betere resultaten kunnen behalen.

Ik was teleurgesteld dat ik geen punten scoorde in Maleisië, aangezien het mijn doel was om elke race dit jaar punten te pakken. Het is moeilijk om aanpassingen aan de auto door te voeren voordat we in Europa komen, maar we hebben veel geleerd en progressie geboekt op Sepang. In Sjanghai moeten we een volgende stap zetten en hopelijk eindigen we nu wel weer in de punten.
