Alonso: "Nieuwe serie wordt de nieuwe Formule 1"

Fernando Alonso heeft net als Kimi Raikkonen aangegeven de teams te volgen naar een andere raceserie. De Renault-coureur gelooft dat het kampioenschap van de FOTA-teams de rol van koningsklasse van de autosport van de Formule 1 over gaat nemen.

Alonso liet BBC weten: Er is geen oplossing gevonden, het zij zo. Het leven gaat door. Ik ga mee met mijn werkgever en de andere FOTA-teams. De nieuwe serie wordt de nieuwe Formule 1. Wat hier overblijft zijn kleine teams, allen aangedreven door Cosworth-motoren en zonder coureurs. Dat is geen Formule 1. In de nieuwe serie blijft alles waarschijnlijk bij het oude, alleen dan niet onder de noemer Formule 1.
