Kampioenschapleider Jenson Button viel in Spa-Francorchamps al in de eerste ronde uit na een tik van Romain Grosjean. Concurrenten Sebastian Vettel en Mark Webber van Red Bull Racing wisten daar echter niet optimaal van te profiteren. Vettel pakte nog wel zes punten en verkleinde het gat naar negentien punten, Webber eindigde na een drive-through penalty buiten de top acht.

Red Bull Racing put wel hoop uit eerste nulscore van Button van dit seizoen. Teambaas Christian Horner: Jenson heeft al sinds de Turkse Grand Prix in juni geen goed weekend meer meegemaakt. Rubens Barrichello won de afgelopen twee races tien punten terug en Sebastian pakt hier zes punten terug. Jenson kan niet ongestraft doorgaan op deze manier, vroeg of laat krijgt hij de rekening gepresenteerd.

Het ligt nog helemaal open, vier man maken kans op de titel. We krijgen voor het einde van het seizoen vast nog meerdere plotwendingen te zien. Sebastian staat nu op negentien punten en hoewel Mark geen punten scoorde dingen onze beide coureurs mee naar het kampioenschap.
