Toto Wolff en Helmut Marko praten niet met elkaar

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff en Red Bull-motorsportadviseur Helmut Marko zullen nooit de beste vrienden worden. De twee Oostenrijkers kunnen elkaar niet uitstaan. Ze praten dan ook niet met elkaar, al moet men daar volgens Wolff niet teveel achter zoeken.

Hij vertelde aan NEWS: "Klopt, we spreken elkaar nooit. In zijn rol is Helmut geen contactpunt voor mij en er is verder geen reden om met elkaar te kletsen. Haat is een te groot woord. We zijn concurrenten. Het is ons werk om op de baan elkaar te verslaan en successen te behalen. Ik heb respect voor Red Bull Racing, maar het leven is te kort om slechte wijn te drinken."

Mercedes verstoorde het Red Bull-feestje in Oostenrijk met een dubbelzege. De stier die pontificaal bij de Red Bull Ring staat kreeg een ketting met het logo van de Duitse autofabrikant omgehangen en Mercedes publiceerde een advertentie met de slogan 'Zilverpijlen geven je vleugels', een verbastering van het motto dat Red Bull doorgaans bezigt.
