Lotus in contact met Mercedes over motoren voor 2015

Het team van Lotus zal op korte termijn aankondigen dat het na dit seizoen overstapt van de Renault V6 turbo naar krachtbronnen van Mercedes. Dat schrijven Joe Saward en Auto Motor und Sport. Lotus komt dan in de plaats van McLaren, dat voor 2015 in zee ging met Honda.

De Britse renstal heeft al contact gelegd met Mercedes. Lotus beleeft dit jaar een desastreus seizoen. De nummer vier van 2013 scoorde pas twee keer punten en bezet nu de achtste plek bij de constructeurs. Hoewel de aandrijflijn van Renault niet de beste is, is niet alles aan het pakket van de Franse autofabrikant te wijten.

Romain Grosjean: "Het is niet alleen de motor, al is duidelijk dat we kracht tekort komen ten opzichte van de Mercedes. De problemen zijn waarschijnlijk meer aerodynamisch van aard. Halverwege de bocht verdwijnt plots alle grip. Alles dat we winnen in snelle bochten verliezen we dubbel in langzame bochten."
