Alonso: "Onrealistisch dat we op eigen kracht race winnen"

Het moet in een van de resterende acht races gek lopen wil Ferrari in 2014 nog een Grand Prix winnen. Die boodschap droeg coureur Fernando Alonso uit in België. De Scuderia bevindt zich niet in de positie om te zegevieren, daar is de F14 T niet snel genoeg voor. Het doel is om Williams af te troeven in de strijd om de derde plek bij de constructeurs.

Alonso: "We moeten de lat voor de rest van dit seizoen lager leggen. Gaan voor de hoogste klassering bij de constructeurs, daar richten we ons nu op. De concurrentie is met bijvoorbeeld Williams stevig. De komende twee Grands Prix zijn op papier in hun voordeel. Voor ons is het een kwestie van schade beperken en dan in het laatste deel van het jaar weer aan te vallen. Maar het is onrealistisch om te denken dat we dit seizoen op eigen kracht nog een race winnen."

Teamgenoot Kimi Raikkonen was al vier maal de beste op Spa-Francorchamps, maar daar heeft hij voor komend weekend maling aan. "Prestaties uit het verleden geven geen garantie voor de toekomst, wat er is gebeurd helpt me nu niet. Het is een moeilijk jaar voor me tot nu toe, maar de vorige race voelde normaler. Ik kon net iets meer rijden zoals ik het voor ogen heb. Hopelijk is dit het begin van een betere periode."
