Max Verstappen maakt zich niet druk om een gebrek aan ervaring in de autosport, zo vertelde hij tegen Autosport enkele weken voor zijn debuut in de Formule 1. De Nederlander heeft slechts één seizoen ervaring in de Formule 3 opgedaan, maar dat hoeft volgens hem geen probleem te zijn.

Verstappen zal over enkele maanden de jongste Formule 1-coureur ooit zijn. Zelden promoveert een coureur direct vanuit de Formule 3 naar de Formule 1, maar de Limburger zegt de moeilijkste overstap al achter de rug te hebben. "De rijstijl in formule wagens in compleet verschillend dan die in de karts."

"Het is dus lastiger om de overstap te maken van de karts naar de formule racerij dan van de Formule 3 naar de Formule 1. Het lijkt veel op elkaar qua rijstijl, de Formule 1 is alleen een stuk sneller. Na mijn overstap vanuit de karts moest ik wel even wennen, dus ik denk dat een groter verschil was dan van de Formule 3 naar de Formule 1."

Verder liet Max weten veel aan zijn vader Jos te hebben gehad. "Ik heb altijd al een goede begeleiding gekregen van mijn vader, al vanaf mijn eerste meters in de karts. Ik was daardoor altijd veel beter voorbereid dan mijn concurrenten. We hebben verder ook een hele goede relatie, dus ik denk dat dat wel een groot voordeel voor mij is."

  Misschien een idee om de komende 10 jaar onder te duiken of te emigreren naar China of zo? Ik vrees dat je er aan zult moeten wennen. ;-)
