FIA wil nieuwe camera's om crashes te onderzoeken

Vanaf 2016 kunnen Formule 1-auto's voorzien worden van speciale hogesnelheidscamera's. Dat is het voorstel van de FIA die deze wil monteren om de onderzoeken naar ongelukken te ondersteunen en verbeteren. Op dit moment gebruikt de organisatie alleen camera's langs de baan en onboard beelden.

Sommige crashes - zoals die van Fernando Alonso afgelopen zondag - worden echter niet goed op beeld vastgelegd. Het ongeluk van de Spanjaard werd alleen in de verte gezien door een CCTV camera. Het voorstel voor hogesnelheidscamera's lag al op tafel, maar krijgt na het ongeluk van de oud-wereldkampioen prioriteit tijdens de volgende FIA World Motor Sport Council vergadering in maart.

"Om ongelukken beter te analyseren moet elke auto uitgerust worden met een hogesnelheidscamera die voldoet aan de specificaties van de FIA. Deze moet op de auto worden gemonteerd tijdens elk evenement en elke test waarbij meer dan één team deelneemt. Teams moeten hun best doen te zorgen dat deze altijd werkt."

Daarnaast zouden coureurs vanaf 2016 versnellingsmeters in hun oor moeten dragen om de impact van een ongeluk beter te kunnen meten. Ook deze apparaten worden door een door de FIA gekozen fabrikant gemaakt.

Goede zaak van de FIA! Scheelt een hoop onderzoek. Zo zouden ze in het verkeer die zogenaamde 'dashboard cams', die je veel in de oostblok landen ziet ook wettelijk moeten verplichten.
