Massa: "Mercedes is een klasse apart"

Felipe Massa zegt dat Mercedes in een andere klasse rijdt vergeleken met de rest van het veld. Het Duitse team domineerde vandaag de kwalificatie, nadat het ook in de eerste drie trainingssessies de snelste was.

Tijdens de kwalificatie was Hamilton bijna anderhalve seconde sneller dan de Braziliaan die als derde eindigde. Een enorm gat, aldus Massa: "Het is niet goed om zo'n verschil te zien, maar we blijven eraan werken. We blijven vechten en ik hoop dat we het gat snel kunnen dichten. Ze zitten alleen in een andere klasse dan de rest. Wij werken in ieder geval om zoveel mogelijk upgrades uit te rollen. We moeten proberen de ontwikkeling van afgelopen seizoen te herhalen, maar nu nog intenser."

Daarnaast heeft Williams volgens Massa haar handen vol aan Ferrari nadat beide teams vochten om de 'best-of-the-rest'-positie in de kwalificatie: "Het gevecht met Ferrari wordt zwaar, zeker in de race zijn zij erg sterk. Ze hebben grote stappen gemaakt ten opzichte van afgelopen jaar. Maar we moeten ons niet alleen op hen focussen, maar ook naar andere concurrenten blijven kijken. Red Bull lijkt ver weg, maar ik ben er zeker van dat ze aan zullen sluiten. Dat deden ze vorig jaar ook."
