Mercedes gebaat bij coureurs die elkaar pushen

Het team van Mercedes zal voorlopig geen hiërarchie aanbrengen in de rijdersverhoudingen. Lewis Hamilton won in Bahrein voor de derde maal terwijl Nico Rosberg nog wacht op zijn eerste zege in 2015. De Duitser vertoeft steeds vaker in de schaduw van zijn Britse teamgenoot.

Motorsportbaas Toto Wolff piekert er echter niet over om de regerend wereldkampioen tot eerste coureur en Rosberg tot hulpje te benoemen. "We hebben coureurs nodig die elkaar pushen en het niveau van het team omhoog stuwen", begint Wolff op Formula1.com. "Ik ben er zeker van dat wij niet eindigen met een situatie waarin we een eerste en een tweede rijder hebben."

Door het uitblijven van bevestiging van een nieuw contract voor Hamilton gaat het verhaal dat de Brit om de status van eerste rijder heeft gevraagd. Wolff ontkent dat. "Het is volkomen onzin. We zijn aanbeland bij de details, alle kritieke onderwerpen zijn reeds afgehandeld. Lewis is een goede onderhandelaar. Verbazingwekkend goed zelfs, aangezien hij het nooit eerder zelf heeft gedaan."

      Mercedes had het misschien onderschat en dat het daaraan ligt dat het zo lang duurt. Het hoeft niet altijd aan de coureur te liggen...

    Mercedes heeft de ideale line-up met Lewis en Nico. Geen uitverkozen nummer 1 maar een Lewis die deze rol op eist. Terwijl Nico in staat is om Lewis scherp te houden. Niks aan veranderen de komende jaren.

      Maar nu je het zegt Damon zijn verhalen kon ik ook wel waarderen, buiten dat hij zijn mening soms wat opdringerig bracht.

      ja, Damon kon zijn meningen ook altijd fanatiek blijven verdedigen, maar zijn inbreng kon ik altijd waarderen.
      Mr Monza mis ik ook op deze site.
