City Racing in Rotterdam gaat dit jaar niet door

De binnenstad van Rotterdam zal dit jaar niet het toneel zijn voor een nieuwe editie van City Racing. De organisatie van het evenement laat weten dat het door een slechte sponsormarkt niet door kan gaan. City Racing leunde lange tijd op de steun van biermerk Bavaria en de afgelopen jaren op die van autohandelaar VKV Group, maar nu is de koek op.

"We hebben er echt alles aan gedaan om City Racing in 2015 van de grond te krijgen, dat is tot op heden niet gelukt. Het is zeer jammer, want er gaat veel verloren als het niet doorgaat. Per City Racing-evenement wordt er, naast het evenement, 15 miljoen euro uitgegeven in Rotterdam en het evenement krijgt van de bezoeker een ruime 8, zoals gebleken is uit de enquêteresultaten van 2014. Ook gaan tientallen miljoenen euro's aan (internationale) exposure voor Rotterdam verloren."

"Afgelopen jaar is Rotterdam met Max Verstappen en Kimi Raikkonen meerdere malen op oa CNN, CNBC en op de hoofdpagina van Scuderia Ferrari F1 geweest. Echter, City Racing is een kostbaar evenement en sponsoring is noodzakelijk om onder andere de inzet van beveiliging, verkeerregelaars en de bouw van het circuit te kunnen bekostigen. Mochten partijen nog sponsorbudget vrij kunnen maken voor 2015 of eventueel 2016, dan kunnen ze contact opnemen", aldus Robert Heilbron.

Jammer! Je zou met Max toch wel verwachten dat er wat sponsors bereid zijn. Denk alleen maar aan Jumbo.

Ben er in 2006 en in 2007 geweest en heb me er toen goed vermaakt. Heb er vervolgens niet meer naar om gekeken, want zonder echt racen was het voor mij niet interessant genoeg. Dat is een beetje overgenomen door de World Series op Spa, ook gratis, wél echt racen, plus een F1 demo en gewoon een wat serieuzer programma. Het is wel verder rijden voor mij, maar dat heb ik er graag voor over (amsterdam). Dit jaar schijnt ook Max langs te komen met een mooie V8 Redbull (meen uit 2012), dan heb je dus een demo van Max tijdens Italia a Zandvoort, Gamma Racing days in Assen én de World Series op Spa. Misschien moeten ze proberen om een Formule E GP naar Rotterdam te halen, maar ik heb begrepen dat nog ongeveer 200 steden dat overwogen hebben, daar zal dus ook aardig voor moeten worden betaald.

  De World Series in Spa zijn inderdaad heel erg mooi. Voor de Nederlandse race fans wordt het inderdaad een mooi spektakel om Verstappen aan het werk te zien met de Red Bull met nog een V8 motor. Die motor hoor je van ver de Radaillon oprijden. Ik zat eens op het stuk in Blanchimont, helemaal aan de andere kant van de Radaillion maar dan nog hoor je die V8 motor die bloedmooie helling opknallen. Heb zo nog Bruno Senna die helling zien opknallen met de Lotus F1 wagen langs de pitmuur. Dus, ik zou zeggen. Zeker doen. Met wat geluk kan je er Max Spreken en ook Jos zal er zijn. Maar daarnaast zie je ook andere racetalenten aan het werk. Heb zo al verschillende piloten persoonlijk ontmoet en gesproken. Bianchi,Magnussen, Stoffel Vandoorne, Kyvat,... Allemaal reden ze ooit in de World Series.

  dan kan je Max ook zien, naast ECHT racen(want op die circuits kan dat, op dat baantje in Rotterdam niet)

Er wordt geschermd met miljoenen toeschouwers terwijl het er niet meer dan 100.000 waren.....

  Ik lees nergens dat er miljoenen toeschouwers op af kwamen, dat waren er overigens ook geen 100.000 maar tussen de 400.000 en de 500.000 bezoekers per evenement.
