Hakkinen geeft ongelijk over Max Verstappen toe

Oud-coureur Mika Hakkinen voelt zich niet te groot om te erkennen dat hij het mis had over Max Verstappen. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen plaatste voorafgaand aan het seizoen vraagtekens bij het Formule 1-debuut van de pas 17-jarige Nederlander.

Die twijfels slikt hij nu weer in. Marca citeert Hakkinen: "Ik was tegen het idee dat iemand op 17-jarige leeftijd in de Formule 1 zou kunnen debuteren, maar ik geef met alle plezier toe dat ik ongelijk had. Het is exemplarisch voor hoe de tijden zijn veranderd."

"De technologie is veel geavanceerder en je krijgt als coureur veel meer informatie. Aan de hand daarvan kunnen jonge talenten zich veel sneller ontwikkelen. Alles is beter georganiseerd, je kan elke dag in de simulator plaats nemen. Ik zeg niet dat het makkelijker is, maar je hebt als rijder tegenwoordig wel meer mogelijkheden om een hoger niveau te bereiken."

      ik ben fan van Max en ik vind het leuk dat hij op 17 jarige leeftijd al deze kans krijgt.
      Toch begrijp ik de twijfels die Mika en Jacques hadden wel.
      In alle eerlijkheid moet ik toegeven dat wanneer Max een andere nationaliteit zou hebben, ik het mss maar niks zou vinden dat zo'n jong jochie al f1 kan en mag rijden.
      In de tijd dat Mika zn debuut maakte (91 dacht ik) reden mannen als Senna en Prost nog mee, en Mansell enzo, toen was het toch meer een mannensport. een 17 jarige f1 coureur was toen gewoon ondenkbaar.

      Denk dat Mika is geschrokken van de gelijkenissen die hij heeft met Jacques en een rectificatie wel op zijn plek vond. + voor Mika :)

    Ik denk dat de geavanceerde techniek geen probleem is voor de hedendaagse jongeling. Ze worden zo ongeveer geboren met een iPad of smartphone. Als ik af en toe zie wat die jonge kinderen qua ICT allemaal kunnen en snappen....

      Dat valt wel mee. Ik zit in het voortgezet onderwijs en ben vrij goed met audio software. Ik ben 14 jaar geleden beginnen les te geven en dacht dat die kinderen mij even zouden leren hoe met computers om te gaan. Nou, ik kan je verzekeren dat ze nu nog steeds met open mond staan te kijken als ik mijn kennis laat zien.

      @Jan Almere, Altijd en eeuwige strijd: Ik ben van de MSX generatie. Ook heerlijk met te razen met 2400 baud.

      Maar ontopic, wat zegt hij nou over Max? Niets toch? Het komt haast over dat hij niet verontschuldigd voor wat hij heeft gezegd. Meer van "Gooi nog een paar 17/18 jarigen erin".

      Trouwens Jan, ik heb mijn eerste en laatste MSX nog (Sony HitBit 201p). Qua kwaliteit van moederborden tegenwoordig, hij start nog op. En ik heb nog wat spelletjes op bandjes staan. Nostalgie.

      @Gompie, kinderen zijn niet bang dat er iets fout gaat als ze op een knopje drukken van een toetsenbord. Dat is nog de ongedwongenheid die ze hebben.
      De meeste volwassenen daarentegen denken teveel na en zijn bang dat er iets fout gaat.
