Renault pauzeert jacht op betere performance

Renault heeft de speurtocht naar meer performance even op een laag pitje gezet en concentreert zich volledig op het verbeteren van de betrouwbaarheid. Dat verkondigde Red Bull Racing-coureur Daniel Ricciardo in de aanloop naar de Grand Prix van Spanje. De Australiër maakt in Barcelona al gebruik van zijn vierde motor van het seizoen, elke volgende krachtbron betekent een straf.

Ricciardo: "De performance geniet op dit moment even niet de prioriteit vanwege alle problemen met de betrouwbaarheid. Dat is waar de nadruk dit weekend op ligt. Duidelijk is dat ik de levensduur van mijn vierde motor zo lang mogelijk wil rekken. Die extra halve tiende aan performance staat even op een zijspoor totdat we honderd procent zeker zijn van de betrouwbaarheid."

"Van Bahrein is al het nodige opgestoken en maatregelen zijn getroffen om herhaling te voorkomen. Renault is vol vertrouwen dat ze het aantal kilometers dat een motor mee kan gaan opgekrikt hebben, dus op gebied van betrouwbaarheid zijn enkele conclusies getrokken. In de trainingen zullen we zo min mogelijk in de hoogste stand rijden. In de kwalificatie en de race gaan we gewoon maximaal, dat risico moeten we nemen."
