Merhi zal ook in Monaco uitkomen voor Manor

Roberto Merhi verlengt zijn Formule 1-loopbaan in elk geval met nog een Grand Prix. De Spanjaard zal in Monaco gewoon voor Manor uitkomen. Er gingen verhalen dat hij na Spanje plaats zou moeten maken voor een betere of kapitaalkrachtigere vervanger, maar Merhi krijgt het vertrouwen.

Manor-directeur Graeme Lowdon deelde aan Autosport mede: "Ik voorzie geen veranderingen aan onze line-up. We hebben bergen werk te verzetten om het gat naar de rest te dichten. In de tussentijd dienen onze rijders te presteren. Ik verwacht geen wijzigingen op dat vlak. Dus ja, Merhi zal ook in Monaco voor ons racen."

Emilio de Villota, teambaas van Merhi bij Pons in de World Series by Renault, voegt toe: "We hebben besloten dat Roberto de Formule 1-race met Manor zal doen. We weten niet hoe lang zijn Formule 1-seizoen gaat duren dus hij moet elke kans die hij krijgt met beide handen aangrijpen. In Spa zal hij weer voor Pons racen."
