Mallya: "Sergio Perez reed foutloos in Monaco"

Force India-coureur Sergio Perez reed in redelijke anonimiteit een dijk van een wedstrijd in Monaco. Aanleiding voor teambaas Vijay Mallya om de uitzonderlijke prestatie van de Mexicaan nog maar eens te benadrukken. Perez startte en finishte de race in Monaco als zevende en dat met een gedateerde auto. Force India smacht naar de komst van de B-versie van de VJM08.

Tot die tijd is het team aangewezen op huzarenstukjes als die van Perez in Monaco. Mallya vertelde aan Autosport: "Als hij zelf aangeeft dat hij volwassener en beter dan ooit rijdt, dan is dat voor zijn rekening. Ik vind het prima, ik ga het ook niet tegenspreken. Als hij dat zo voelt, dan is dat alleen maar positief voor ons."

"Ik contracteerde hem omdat hij talent heeft, anders was ik minder happig geweest om hem te nemen. Vorig jaar was hij al goed en daarom verlengden we zijn verbintenis voor dit jaar, met een optie op nog een seizoen. Dat zou ik niet doen als ik geen vertrouwen in hem zou hebben. In Monaco toonde hij waarom dat vertrouwen gerechtvaardigd is. Sergio was foutloos in de kwalificatie en foutloos in de race. Hij reed briljant."
