Ricciardo: "Toppers gebaat bij bredere banden"

Red Bull Racing-coureur Daniel Ricciardo denkt dat het voornemen om vanaf 2017 bredere achterbanden te introduceren in de Formule 1 een goede ontwikkeling voor de sport is. Op die manier kunnen de toppers zich weer meer onderscheiden van de doorsnee rijders. Door de toename in mechanische grip wordt er meer van de coureurs gevergd.

Ricciardo: "Mentaal moet je concentratie in opperste staat zijn, dus ik denk dat je een groter verschil tussen de toppers en de rest zult zien. Het geeft meer voldoening. Tenminste, voor de jongens die ermee overweg kunnen. Mechanische grip is het toverbegrip. Dat is het beste omdat je vlak achter een voorligger kan blijven rijden door snelle bochten."

"De rondetijden duikelen omlaag en alles komt veel sneller op je af. Er is veel te winnen aan mechanische grip, wat dat betreft is er nog genoeg ruimte om de huidige bolides te verbeteren. Alleen daarmee kunnen we al seconden van de rondetijden afhalen. Dan hoeven we verder weinig aan de aerodynamica aan te passen."

    Perfect. Hier gaat het om. Auto's waarmee geracet kan worden op banen waar je kunt inhalen! Monaco uitgezonderd maar ook dat levert spektakel op.

      Op Monaco hebben we geen brede banden nodig voor spektakel, alleen ene Max Verstappen. 8-)

    Zegt hij hier nu, dat je alleen een topper kunt zijn als je met mechanische grip om kunt gaan? Nou ik er zo over nadenk...had Vettel (4x wk) nou juist wel of geen goede mechanische grip bij Red Bull?
    Button (1x wk) moest het in zijn wk-jaar sowieso van de aerodynamica hebben. (en ik zeg het maar bij, het is al te erg voor woorden dat ik het er bij moet zetten, dit is niet om te bashen of reacties uit te lokken)

      Ik denk dat Ricciardo dan door de mand gaat vallen. Op de technisch moeilijke banen waar het op de coureur aankwam was Vettel altijd sneller vorig jaar.

      Als jij als enige betere mechanische grip hebt, dan heb je juist een voordeel.
      Als iedereen het heeft, dan vervalt het voordeel. En dan komt iets waar ik geen verstand van heb: Ricciardo zegt dat je met meer mechanische grip dichter op elkaar kan rijden en met hogere snelheden door de bochten kan. Even basiskennis: dicht bij elkaar zorgt ervoor dat je in stripstream komt en dan verlies je grip, je vleugels werken geloof ik minder goed. Banden werken altijd. Dichter op elkaar rijden loop je meer risico (kan Verstappen sinds kort alles over vertellen ;)), hogere snelheid is precies hetzelfde. Plus dat reactietijd bij hogere snelheid een probleem kan worden.

      Ik zeg doen! Ik vind de huidige banden ook wel beetje sneu.

      Bredere banden is volgens mij net zoiets als de verwarming hoger zetten, maar de ramen open laten. Tuurlijk zal het warmer worden, maar die warmte verdwijnt net zo makkelijk weer door de open ramen. Doe gewoon de ramen dicht, hoeft de verwarming niet zo hoog en is het toch warm.
      Als iemand dit snapt, dan petje af hahahahaha

      Mechanische grip vervalt niet zozeer op vleugels dus heb je minder verlies als je kort achter een ander rijdt.

      Maar zolang een F1 auto zo afhankelijk is van de aerodynamica, zoals het nu is, dan is het toch water naar de zee dragen?
      Ze zoeken naar een oplossing, voor een probleem, die ze zelf gecreëerd hebben.
