Mercedes ziet zichzelf wel klantenauto's leveren

Mercedes heeft al met drie teams op de grid gesproken over de mogelijke levering van klantenauto's. Dat stelt motorsportbaas Toto Wolff in gesprek met Sky Sports F1. De Formule 1 verricht momenteel een studie naar het toestaan van het gebruik van klantenauto's.

Franchises of het verlenen van technische steun door grotere teams zoals in de NASCAR, dat zijn concepten waar de Formule 1 wellicht iets van kan leren. Wolff: "We moeten ons op het ergste voorbereiden. Klantenauto's of franchises, we zien het in andere sporten, we zien het in NASCAR en daar functioneert het vrij goed."

"Als de noodoplossing eruit bestaat dat we auto's leveren aan klantenteams, hopelijk de bestaande teams, dan zie ik ons dat wel doen. Het is nu nog een kwestie van hoe het te financieren en hoe we de technische reglementen eromheen opstellen. Maar ik sluit het zeker niet uit."

      Ha, ze draaien gewoon een knopje iets verder open. Ze hadden bij de tests voor het seizoen toch al 50-70 pk meer?

    Het is onderhand wel duidelijk waar het heen gaat met de F1. De private teams staan er alleen voor, de top teams en Bernie willen klantenteams, de huidige motoren blijven tegen wil en dank en aan de inkomstenverdeling wordt uiteraard niets gedaan.

    Het is niet voor niets dat er plots door de FIA een tender voor een nieuw team is geopend. Onder de huidige reglementen is het technisch bijna niet mogelijk om een team op poten te zetten voor volgend seizoen, maar voor een klantenteam kan dat wel. Zeker als het een team betreft dat al meedraait in andere (gelijkaardige) series.

    Als de grote teams (Mercedes, McLaren en Ferrari) klantenauto's gaat leveren dan zeg ik de F1 definitief vaarwel. Want die klantenauto's gaan alleen maar als veldvulling dienen en gaan écht niet de technische specificaties krijgen van de moederteams. De moederteams zullen altijd een update-serie voor lopen, waardoor de klantenteams behalve een mazzeltje nog steeds geen kans hebben. Dat zag je in het verleden ook bij de DTM, de klantenteams reden met de auto van het seizoen ervoor en waren in feite kansloos.
