Alonso: "Concentreren op 2016 de beste optie"

Voor McLaren-Honda is het seizoen 2015 sportief gezien al verloren. Ze kunnen nog wel een boel leren dit jaar, maar qua resultaten valt er niet veel eer meer te behalen dit jaar. McLaren kan zich beter op 2016 focussen, luidt het devies van coureur Fernando Alonso. De aandacht mag wat hem betreft al op volgend seizoen komen te liggen.

Alonso: "In de positie waarin we ons bevinden en met de performance die we hebben, is concentreren op volgend jaar volgens mij de beste optie. Ik zou het niet erg vinden om de rest van de races dit seizoen vanuit de pitstraat te starten, zolang we de auto maar verbeteren. Dat is de prioriteit, we moeten ons richten op de performance voor 2016."

Teamgenoot Jenson Button denkt daar anders over. "Je kan dit seizoen nog niet afschrijven. De regels veranderen deze winter nauwelijks. Natuurlijk wordt het volgend jaar opwindender voor ons, hopelijk kunnen we dan vooraan meedoen. Maar om daar te komen moeten we dit seizoen wel goed afmaken door te pushen, te ontwikkelen en de basis te leggen voor 2016."
