Leimer onzeker voor vrije training op Silverstone

Het is nog allerminst zeker dat Fabio Leimer komende vrijdag zijn debuut maakt in een vrije training bij een Grand Prix. De Zwitser sprak recent zelf de verwachting uit dat hij op Silverstone de eerste sessie voor zijn rekening zou nemen, maar het is nog altijd niet bevestigd door Manor.

Leimer is sinds een maandje als reserverijder aan het achterhoedeteam verbonden. Maar of hij komende vrijdag zijn eerste meters in de auto mag maken, dat is nog afwachten. Zijn management verkondigde aan Blick: "We weten het nog steeds niet zeker."

Op termijn geldt Leimer als kandidaat om het racezitje van Roberto Merhi af te pakken. "Ik hoefde niet lang na te denken toen Manor me belde, ik heb gelijk ja gezegd. Ze wilden me als derde rijder hebben en misschien later dit seizoen nog wat races laten doen", aldus de Zwitser.
