Opeenstapeling van fouten verpestte race Stevens

Will Stevens zag de hoop op een gooi naar unieke punten voor Manor in rook opgaan in de slotfase van de Britse Grand Prix. De Engelsman reed maar twee posities buiten de top tien toen een opeenstapeling van fouten een einde maakte aan zijn kansen op een mooi resultaat. Hij wisselde veel te vroeg naar intermediates. Hij reed zijn banden helemaal naar gruzelementen en spinde vervolgens van de baan. Daardoor eindigde hij zelfs nog achter teamgenoot Roberto Merhi.

Stevens over zijn thuisrace: "Toen ik de pits in kwam, was het team niet klaar voor me en ik moest vijftien seconden wachten voordat ik nieuwe banden kreeg. Daar ging de voorsprong die ik op Roberto had. De baan was nog te droog voor de intermediates, dus we rookten het rubber in acht ronden helemaal op. Toen besloot het team om Roberto eerder naar binnen te halen. Juist in die extra ronde dat ik door moest spinde ik, omdat het weer begon te regenen."

"Mijn banden waren op, het waren bijna slicks. Het profiel was helemaal van het oppervlak gesleten. Ik pushte niet eens omdat ik wist dat mijn banden hun beste tijd gehad hadden. De achterkant van de bolide schoot onder me vandaan en vervolgens was ik een passagier. Ik stopte voor nieuwe intermediates en toen was het een kwestie van de finish halen. Dichter bij punten ben ik nog niet geweest, wie weet wat er in die omstandigheden nog mogelijk was."

"Negentig procent van de race was positief, alleen de laatste tien procent was negatief. Overall was het een goed weekend voor het team en mij. Silverstone zou voor ons het slechtste circuit zijn. Het is een baan met snelle bochten en rechte stukken, de aspecten waar wij het meest mee worstelen. Maar de auto geeft ons steeds meer vertrouwen. In Hongarije hebben we weer wat updates, hopelijk staan we dan weer iets dichter bij de rest."

Toch moet ik zeggen dat de Manor coureurs bestaat goed presteren. Ik heb het niet opgezocht, maar volgens mij komen ze vrijwel altijd aan de finish.

De auto is veel te langzaam en de coureurs zijn geen toptalenten, maar als ze zo door blijven gaan dan kunnen ze best nog wel eens een puntje pakken in een bijzondere race.

  Ze halen de finish vast vaak doordat ze niet zo hard gaan. Dan gaat er ook minder snel iets kapot........

Opeenstapeling van fouten van Will.
1. In de F1 gaan rijden.
2. Manor als team kiezen omdat niemand anders hem wil.
3. Denken dat je toch nog een wk punt kunt halen dit jaar.
