Traag tempo in regen een raadsel voor Williams

Het team van Williams tast in het duister in de zoektocht naar een verklaring waarom het onder natte omstandigheden veel terrein prijs geeft. In de slotfase van de Britse Grand Prix begon het te druppelen en prompt verspeelde de renstal uit Grove een podiumplek. Het was niet de eerste keer dat Williams inkakte bij een beetje regen.

Coureur Felipe Massa heeft er geen uitleg voor. "We hebben een probleem. We proberen al anderhalf jaar te doorgronden waarom we in de regen niet snel zijn. Dat is niet leuk. Het is een probleem aan het worden. We knokten met Mercedes. In het droge waren ze misschien één, twee tienden per rondje sneller. Op een natte baan was dat gewoon twee seconden per ronde."

"Na anderhalf jaar begrijpen we nog steeds niet hoe dat komt. Ik weet het niet. De auto van dit jaar is een evolutie van de auto van vorig jaar, maar vorig jaar waren we slecht in de regen en nu nog steeds. We trachten al geruime tijd om het uit te pluizen, maar we komen geen steek verder. We verliezen gewoon veel grip in de regen, er gebeurt iets met de auto."

    Het is geen toeval dat ze er in Monaco ook niet aan te pas kwamen..

    Bij Williams verloopt het af en toe nogal raar.
    In Monaco waren ze nergens. In GB daarentegen vliegen ze de mercedessen voorbij tot het begint te regenen om terug op de achtergrond te verdwijnen

    Misschien ligt het ook deels aan de coureurs, wanneer heeft Massa in de regen iets spectaculairs gedaan? Ik weet het niet, kan ook aan mij liggen. Zelfde geldt voor Bottas, maar die heeft dan ook nog alleen maar in deze auto in de regen gereden. Waardoor je niets kan uitsluiten. Misschien dat iemand weet hoe Bottas het deed in de regen in de opstapklasses?

    Ik zelf denk dat het uiteindelijk aan de mechanische grip ligt. Maar dat hadden ze self dan al wel ontdekt.
    misschien is het de rijbaarheid van de motor, een engine mapping of what so ever, een standje op het stuur. Wat ze bij het fabrieksteam heel wat beter op orde hebben?

    David Coultard en Eddie Jordan wisten nochtans precies te zeggen waarom dat was en volgens mij klopte het ook. Het heeft te maken met niet genoeg budget om een wagen te bouwen die tegen de Mercedes op kan en daarom ervoor kiezen een wagen te bouwen die op enkele circuits heel goed is maar niet overal. Hierdoor kunnen ze enkele keren per jaar opvallen en sponsors strikken.
