Brok in de keel en kippenvel bij Jos Verstappen

De weergaloze prestatie van Max Verstappen in Hongarije heeft ook bij vader Jos het nodige teweeg gebracht. Max blonk uit met een razenknappe vierde positie. Jos Verstappen zegt op Verstappen.nl: "Dit was top. Ik ben heel blij voor Max. Na de laatste tijd zoveel te hebben meegemaakt nu zo'n goed resultaat boeken, is gewoon lekker. Max heeft super geracet."

Terugblikkend op de race, analyseert Jos: "Max had op zich een goede start, maar ging voor de zekerheid. Hij zat aan de binnenkant, waar niemand je kan raken, maar verloor een paar plekken. Daarna heeft hij Alonso ingehaald en zich keurig opgewerkt. De pitstop was goed en ook op het juiste moment. Dat bracht hem weer voor Carlos en Max had er gewoon goed de vaart inzitten."

"Natuurlijk zat er ook een portie geluk bij die vierde plek. Maar geluk creëer je ook zelf door op het juiste moment op de juiste plaats te rijden. Tegen het einde van de race was ik nerveus en hoopte ik dat de auto heel zou blijven. Ik stond met gekruiste vingers te kijken. Toen Max over de finishlijn kwam, was ik enorm blij. Het hele team stond te springen, helemaal super. Ja, dat leverde een brok in mijn keel en kippenvel op."

"Het is niet normaal wat Max laat zien. Dit is ook goed voor zijn vertrouwen. Max weet nu weer waar hij zich op moet concentreren: gewoon keihard aan het werk blijven en dan komt het vanzelf. Dit is pas het begin. Er komt echt nog veel meer aan. Dat weet ik zeker."

"We weten allemaal waar Max toe in staat is. Dit is er weer een voorbeeld van. We gaan nog meer van dit soort races meemaken. Dat Max op 17-jarige leeftijd vierde wordt in een Grand Prix, als ik daar over nadenk, lopen de rillingen over mijn rug."

Ik werd bijna gek op de bank. Toen Ricciardo die botsing had dacht ik even dat Verstappen met P3 het podium zou beklimmen, net als zijn vader in 1994 op deze baan. Ik stond letterlijk op van de bank toen Ricciardo die botsing had (en ik Rosberg ook zag terugvallen met de kapotte band).

  Ik had precies hetzelfde.....ik zat te hopen dat Ricciardo een straf zou krijgen of uit zou vallen vanwege die botsing met Rosberg. Eigenlijk best erg ;)) alleen maar om Max op het podium te zien komen

Laat Max zich lekker ontwikkelen en fouten maken, want wat ik gisteren gezien heb? Onder deze 17 jarige knul zich een diamant die juist door de fouten een mooi geheel krijgt.

Maar wat ik nog het sterkste punt van Max vind, hij gaat enorm goed met kritiek om en trekt juist leer uit de dingen die gezegd worden en gaat niet bij de pakken neerzitten.

Jos had een brok in de keel én kippenvel én gekruiste vingers én rillingen over de rug.
Allen nog knikkende knieën verwijderd van een spoedopname.

Geloof dat Max wel aardig op schema ligt om naar Ferrari te vertrekken. Benieuwd wat voor symptomen Jos dan vertoont.

Alsof hij de enige was.. Denk dat heel veel landgenoten met spanning aan de TV gekluisterd hebben gezeten. En hoe groot was de opluchting bij de finish.
