Verstappen heel tevreden over eerste seizoenshelft

De eerste helft van het debuutseizoen van Max Verstappen in de Formule 1 zit erop. De 17-jarige Nederlander heeft in zijn eerst tien Grands Prix een blijvende indruk achtergelaten. Het absolute hoogtepunt was natuurlijk zijn vierde plek in de laatste race voor de zomerstop, maar hij imponeerde ook met een tweede plaats in zijn eerste training op Monaco.

Verstappen blikte op www.verstappen.nl terug en vooruit: "Ik ben heel tevreden. Zeker die laatste race in Hongarije helpt enorm, dat maakt het extra bijzonder. Maar in het algemeen denk ik dat we het heel goed hebben gedaan. Ik heb een paar mooie inhaalacties gemaakt, we zijn blijven leren en progressie blijven boeken. Dat is allemaal heel positief."

"In eerste instantie kon ik het niet geloven dat ik als vierde was gefinisht in Hongarije. Ik was heel erg blij en had het niet verwacht. Je moet nooit opgeven en op de juiste positie zitten als andere coureurs fouten maken. Dat liep perfect in Hongarije."

"Ik ga nu anderhalve week op vakantie, samen met mijn familie, de zon opzoeken. Na de drukke eerste helft van het jaar en voor alle races die er nog aankomen, ga ik mijn rust pakken. Dat is vakantie, maar natuurlijk blijf ik ook dan trainen. Dat is belangrijk. Ik heb al een trainingsschema van mijn trainer gekregen. Direct na mijn vakantie begint de voorbereiding op de Grand Prix van België."

"Dat is moeilijk te zeggen wat ik daarvan verwacht zonder er gereden te hebben. Na de eerste trainingen kan ik daar meer over vertellen, maar het resultaat zal niet zoals in Hongarije zijn. Het zal moeilijk zijn om op mijn thuiscircuit punten te scoren, want het heeft veel lange rechte stukken en dat is niet in ons voordeel."

Over zijn doelstelling voor het restant van dit seizoen zegt Verstappen: "Zoveel mogelijk punten scoren. Singapore zal voor ons een goede kans op punten zijn. Verder zal het lastig worden op alle circuits met lange rechte stukken zoals Spa-Francorchamps, Monza en ook Sotsji. Maar ik zal altijd mijn best doen om punten mee te nemen."

Hij doet het geweldig, zelf de grote jongens maken fouten dat zagen we afgelopen weekend. Max is de reden dat ik weer uitkijk naar een f1 weekend! Komt helemaal goed met deze rijzende ster!

Ik was gister bij de Gamma Racing Day. Toen besefte ik weer hoe speciaal dit is. Een 'jochie' van 17 die met zo'n 800 PK monster foutloos een demo weggeeft, inclusief vele donuts op een smal stuk asfalt. Alleen al om 'redelijk competatief' te zijn in F1 is al moeilijk zat, zie jongens als Nasr, Sainz, Merhi en ook ervaren rijders als Perez of Maldonado. Maar dan ook nog eens in je eerste seizoen regelmatig briljante (inhaal)acties tentoonspreiden. Ja, op zo'n dag als gister als je hem bezig hoort en ziet gaan in die auto, dan besef je weer hoe bijzonder dit is wat we meemaken. Dit gaan we (vrees ik) nooit weer zien als Nederlandse F1 liefhebbers, een Nederlands talent met zo'n talent en zo'n mooie toekomst voor zich. Geniet er maar van (maar gezien de opkomst gister zit dat bij raceminnend Nederland wel goed).

  Max is een Belg, die er voor kiest om als Nederlander (vanwege een Nederlandse vader) in de F1 te racen. Zelfs als hij afstand doet van zijn Belgische nationaliteit (wat hj mag doen) zal hij toch altijd een geboren Belg blijven. (ik heb het opgezocht en dit is dus geen mening, maar een feit)

  Het maakt niet uit waar ie geboren is. Het maakt niet uit waar hij woont. Het gaat om jet gevoel wat Max van binnen heeft. En dan kan je wel blijven doorgaan zeuren over dat het geen Nederlander is. Hij heeft een Nederlandse vader, dus hij mag hier voor kiezen. Als ik jou moet geloven ben jij het er dus ook niet mee wens dat Kluivert,Davids,Bogarde of Reiziger ooit voor Nederland hebben gevoetbald? En ik weet ook wel dat Suriname 'officieel' Nederland is. Maar toch, ze zijn niet 'hier' geboren.
  Kortom: wees blij met wat we hebben, als Max ooit wint, horen we het Wilhelmus. Daar kiest Max zelf voor. Hij voelt zich meer Nederlander dan Belg. Hij heeft ook de Nederlandse achternaam, en volgens mij is het niet raar dat je je meer de nationaliteit voelt van degene waar je je hele leven heel Europa mee afreist.
