Band tussen rijders sterker na overlijden Bianchi

De onderlinge band tussen de Formule 1-coureurs is verstevigd door de dood van hun voormalig collega Jules Bianchi. Dat stelt Williams-rijder Felipe Massa in gesprek met Globo. Bianchi bezweek vorige maand aan de verwondingen die hij driekwart jaar eerder in de Japanse Grand Prix opliep.

Massa: "Na zoiets groeien rijders naar elkaar toe. De band wordt inniger. Het was een triest moment voor de sport in zijn algemeen. Wat Jules is overkomen, was geen normale crash. Het was een botsing met een bergingsvoertuig. Als gevolg van het ongeluk zijn er veranderingen doorgevoerd, zoals de introductie van de virtuele safety car."

"Maar het is meer. Jules was een goede vriend. Het ging verder dan de normale relatie tussen coureurs onderling. Het is allemaal heel treurig wat er met hem gebeurd is en het is een extra drijfveer om voor meer veiligheid in de Formule 1 te blijven knokken."
