Gemis van simulator grote handicap voor Sauber

Dat Sauber geen Formule 1-simulator heeft kan de Zwitserse renstal op gaan breken bij de komende Grand Prix op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps. In België treden scherpere richtlijnen voor rijdershulp bij de start in werking. De Sauber-coureurs hebben alleen geen mogelijkheid om zich daar virtueel op voor te bereiden. Een slechte zaak, zo stelt Felipe Nasr.

"Het gemis van een simulator is een groot nadeel en het team is zich daar bewust van. Daarom proberen we voor volgend jaar iets te regelen", begint de Braziliaan tegenover Autosport. "Voor een coureur is het alleen maar positief om in de simulator alvast de blik op het eerstvolgende raceweekend te richten, om de racelijnen te oefenen en de rempunten te vinden."

"Je kan veel doen in de simulator. Zonder simulator kost het meer tijd om een nieuw circuit onder de knie te krijgen. We hebben verschillende alternatieven geprobeerd, zoals visualiseren of met videobeelden werken. Maar een simulator blijft toch de beste oplossing. En nu met de nieuwe startregels hadden we ons daar ook beter op voor kunnen bereiden."

"In Hongarije hebben we al wat met de procedures geëxperimenteerd om referentiepunten op te bouwen. Het wordt moeilijk om perfect te starten zonder alle informatie vanaf de pitmuur, maar het is voor iedereen hetzelfde. We gaan voor consistentie. We hoeven niet de beste te zijn. Het is makkelijker om de start te verknoeien dan om het perfect te doen. Maar op een moment als dit zou ik graag in een simulator kruipen om dingen uit te proberen."

  Die heeft elke coureur wel in zijn slaapkamer staan ga ik vanuit. Het gaat er meer om de starts te oefenen zonder hulpmiddelen van de enigeneer. De verschillende settings van de koppeling etc. kun je simpelweg niet nabootsen op je playstation, dat kunnen alleen de grote en dure simulatoren van bv. Red Bull en Ferrari.

  Raar dat sommigen alles dat hier geschreven wordt zo ernstig en letterlijk opnemen.

Exact wat Frijns zei tijdens zijn testperiode bij Sauber. Hij had daar bijzonder weinig te doen.

Dit team komt er niet meer bovenop, beter als het door bijv. Audi of een andere grote fabrikant wordt opgekocht.
