Verstappen en Sainz doen regendansje voor Spa

Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureurs Max Verstappen en Carlos Sainz zullen het dit weekend in België van speciale omstandigheden moeten hebben om hoge ogen te gooien. Met de zwakke Renault-motor zijn ze bij voorbaat kansloos voor een topklassering op het snelle Spa-Francorchamps. Tenzij de race een gek en chaotisch wedstrijdverloop kent.

Sainz: "Na Hongarije hebben we onze doelstelling van de top vijf bij de constructeurs weer binnen handbereik. We werken voluit en dat is een goed teken. We hebben een soortgelijke race nodig als op de Hungaroring om competitief te zijn in België. Met maximale downforce zouden we in de tweede sector op Spa zeer sterk zijn, maar dan verlies je te veel in de eerste en derde sector. Dus we hopen op regen, dat is zeker."

Verstappen sluit zich daar bij aan: "Ja, laten we een regendansje doen. De Hungaroring was een goed circuit voor ons qua performance en gescoorde punten. Op Spa krijgen we het een stuk lastiger. Deze baan ligt onze auto niet echt. We gaan ons best doen om het maximaal haalbare resultaat te behalen. Die vierde plek uit Hongarije heeft ons in elk geval extra motivatie gegeven."

"Vorig jaar won ik in de Formule 3 alle drie de races op Spa-Francorchamps, dat was geweldig. Hopelijk kan ik nu wat puntjes pakken. Het is een fenomenaal circuit om op te rijden, een unieke baan met uitdagende en snelle bochten. Het is alweer een jaar geleden dat Toro Rosso mijn debuut in de Formule 1 bevestigde. Een dag die ik nooit zal vergeten. Ik heb sindsdien zoveel geleerd in een kort tijdsbestek. De tijd is voorbij gevlogen."

In Spa weet je het nooit, maar vooralsnog geven ze weinig kans op regen.

  Ik zie op buienradar dat de meeste regen net na de race zou komen.
  Maar het is nog 5 dagen. Dus kan nog veranderen!
