Manor in gesprek met Mercedes over motoren

Manor F1 Team heeft contact opgenomen met Mercedes om volgend jaar motoren af te nemen. De Britse renstal rijdt dit jaar met overjarige Ferrari-krachtbronnen en wil voor 2016 een stap vooruit zetten. Indien de Mercedes-motoren van Lotus vrij komen is dat een aantrekkelijke optie voor het achterhoedeteam.

Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff geeft tegenover Autosport toe: "We hebben wat over motoren gesproken met Manor en zij hebben interesse om een competitieve omgeving te verkennen. Ze maken momenteel gebruik van Ferrari-motoren, maar het is een jong team en voor de toekomst zullen ze de opties bij alle motorleveranciers aftasten om de beste afweging te kunnen maken. Daarom hebben we met Manor gepraat."

Mercedes heeft dispensatie van de internationale autosportbond FIA om vier teams van motoren te voorzien, aangezien een motorleverancier eigenlijk maximaal drie klanten mag hebben. "Het is een kwestie van capaciteit of we Manor kunnen helpen. Het is sowieso nog de vraag welke kant het met Renault en Lotus op gaat, dus we houden alle opties open", aldus Wolff.

Een samenwerking met Manor biedt Mercedes wel de kans om reserverijder Pascal Wehrlein ervaring op te laten doen. Wolff: "We hebben het met Manor helemaal nog niet gehad over rijders, daar is het veel te vroeg voor. Ik ben fan van Pascal, hij heeft de potentie om het te maken in de Formule 1. Maar op dit moment concentreer ik me volledig op het in de wacht slepen van de titels. Daarna ga ik kijken naar de mogelijkheden om Wehrlein ergens onder te brengen."

Ik ben blij dat F1today dit stuk plaatst, want het is haast een revolutionair bericht. Er is in de F1 een coup bezig. Dat is de enige verklaring die ik heb achter de gebeurtenissen van de afgelopen weken.

Ferrari en Mercedes( wellicht ook Honda) zijn bezig de sport enorm te veranderen in 1 jaar. Vooral buiten de baan. Ferrari heeft als semi klanten team Haas F1. Mercedes gaat Manor motoren leveren en Wehrlein daar plaatsen. Wolff probeerde dat eerder nog bij Force India te doen, maar die zijn erg tegen klanten teams. Ik ben er zeker van dat de aankondiging van Hulkenberg ook een soort statement is. Wij van Force India gaan zelfs over onze rijders. Datzelfde geldt volgens mij voor Sauber. Daar zijn Honda en Renault ook langs geweest. Waarschijnlijk om er ook een soort 2e team van gemaakt. Daarna wordt het contract van die Zweed en Nasr verlengd.

Natuurlijk wordt Manor niet helemaal een Mercedes junior team, maar het scheelt niet veel met een motor, aandrijflijn en een rijder. Dit zal waarschijnlijk de toekomst worden van de "kleinere" teams in de F1. Of ze worden een junior team of ze verdwijnen helemaal.

  Ik heb gehoord dat het zelfs verder gaat en dat de deal inhoud dat Manor ook gegevens gaat krijgen van Mercedes over de wagen van dit seizoen....
  
  En Renault komt niet met een upgrade zodat Lotus boven STR en mogelijk RBR finished....

  Om boven STR en mogelijk RBR te finishen zullen die Lotus-wagens iets verder moet komen dan de eerste ronde.

Team AA wil geen motoren leveren aan Team A en AB omdat die anders ook een AA kan worden, dus dan (misschien) maar leveren aan een B team zodat die een AB team kan worden. En maar hopen dat team B de dure klantenmotor van Team AA kan betalen.
Het is net een kleuterklas.
