Rossi: "Beetje onwerkelijk om in F1 te debuteren"

Alexander Rossi staat aan de vooravond van zijn debuut in de Formule 1. De Amerikaan is vrij onverwachts door Manor aangesteld als vervanger voor Roberto Merhi in vijf van de laatste zeven Grands Prix van dit seizoen, te beginnen in Singapore. Rossi: "Ik ben de afgelopen jaren vaker dichtbij mijn debuut in de Formule 1 geweest en het is een beetje onwerkelijk dat het nu echt gaat gebeuren."

Hij vervolgt: "Dinsdagochtend heb ik pas het ticket hierheen geboekt, dinsdagavond stapte ik op het vliegtuig. Het is allemaal op het laatste moment tot stand gekomen. Daags na het weekend op Monza zijn de onderhandelingen geopend. Ik heb natuurlijk een geschiedenis bij dit team, we hebben in 2014 samengewerkt en de communicatie is nooit gestopt. Maar ik had niet verwacht dat 2015 het jaar van mijn debuut in de Formule 1 zou worden."

"Mijn GP2-seizoen verloopt goed en ik ben toegewijd aan Racing Engineering, dus ik ben heel blij dat ze me toestaan om dit programma bij Manor ernaast te doen. Tegelijkertijd ben ik Manor natuurlijk veel dank verschuldigd voor deze kans. Het is uiteraard lastig voor het team dat ik niet alle races voor mijn rekening kan nemen, maar beide kampen hebben water bij de wijn gedaan en gelukkig zijn we tot overeenstemming gekomen."
