Jos Verstappen tekent voor P6 of P7 voor Max

Jos Verstappen heeft in zijn column in De Telegraaf uitgebreid stil gestaan bij de situatie van Renault. De Franse autofabrikant stopt als motorleverancier van Red Bull Racing en Scuderia Toro Rosso. De vraag is alleen nog wanneer; nadat de overeenkomst na 2016 afloopt of worden de contract na dit jaar al ontbonden. Voor Max Verstappen zou een breuk tussen Red Bull en Renault niet per definitie een slechte ontwikkeling zijn, maar eerst dit weekend Singapore.

Jos Verstappen: "Renault is met Red Bull vier jaar op rij wereldkampioen geworden en volgens Renault-baas Carlos Ghosn kreeg men destijds te weinig credits, terwijl men dit seizoen wel de volle laag krijgt vanwege alle problemen bij Red Bull en Toro Rosso. Ik begrijp wel een beetje wat hij bedoelt, maar Renault heeft in mijn beleving wel degelijk meegedeeld in eerdere successen."

"Laat ik vooropstellen dat deze nieuwe generatie motoren uiterst complex is. Het is niet alleen de motor, maar ook de turbo, de batterij, de MGU-K, de MGU-H en nog andere componenten die met elkaar moeten communiceren. Maar ja, Mercedes en Ferrari zijn er wel in geslaagd om deze ingewikkelde materie voor elkaar te krijgen. Volgens mij heeft het te maken met onderschatting. Mercedes heeft eenvoudigweg meer geld en mensen op het motorenproject gezet en dat betaalt zich nu uit."

"Ik hoop wel van ganser harte dat een groot merk als Renault actief blijft in de Formule 1. Daar hoort men ook thuis. Lotus is in feite altijd het fabrieksteam van Renault geweest, dus het zou mooi zijn als beide partijen weer herenigd worden."

"Sportief gezien ligt het voor de hand dat beide Red Bull-teams uitgerust gaan worden met Ferrari-motoren. Met het oog op de ontwikkeling van de auto voor komend seizoen dient er in ieder geval zo snel mogelijk duidelijkheid te komen, want het staat vast dat er bergen werk verzet moeten gaan worden. Immers, met een nieuwe motorleverancier wordt alles aan de auto anders."

"Het is waar dat Red Bull Racing met een groter budget werkt dan Toro Rosso en daarmee in het voordeel is, maar Toro Rosso is een sterk team met goede mensen. Dit jaar heeft men per slot van rekening ook een goede auto gebouwd. Dus ik heb er alle vertrouwen in. Persoonlijk ben ik alleen met het belang van Max bezig. Dit jaar zijn we te vaak uitgevallen door motorisch gerelateerde problemen. Mijn gevoel zegt dat we met een andere motor 'flink in de vooruit' gaan en dat is waar het voor mij om draait."

"Ik kijk al uit naar volgend seizoen, maar zeker ook naar Singapore. Dit stratencircuit past bij de auto. En bij Max. Vooraf teken ik voor een zesde of zevende plaats."

Er zijn speculaties dat Renault in 2016 Mercedes motoren met een Renault badge gaat leveren.
In dat geval zou het team het contract met Red Bull en Toro Rosso uit kunnen dienen zonder verder kosten te maken voor de ontwikkeling en zonder steeds maar geconfronteerd te worden met de matige prestaties van hun eigen motor.
Wie weet...

Lijkt me duidelijk dat de teams beter af zijn met een 2015 Mercedes motor met een Rebnault badge dan met een hagelnieuwe echte 2016 Renault motor.

  Mercedes en Renault hebben belangen maar lijkt me vreemd dat ze dit van bedrijfswagens door gaan trekken tot F1....

Volgens mij strooit Max zijn DNA-kruit aardig kwistig in het rond momenteel. ;-)
