Alonso gaat voor punten na twaalfde startplaats

Fernando Alonso hoopt voor de punten te kunnen strijden tijdens de Grand Prix van Singapore. De Spanjaard kwalificeerde zich gisteren als twaalfde en lijkt het hele weekend aardig mee te kunnen komen met de top-tien. Inhalen is echter lastig op het Marina Bay Circuit, dus een safety car zou Alonso goed uitkomen.

"We hebben deze positie verdiend", aldus Alonso na afloop van de kwalificatie. "Zonder gele vlaggen hadden we misschien samen op plek elf en twaalf gestaan, maar beter was het niet geworden. Ik heb een goed weekend hier, anders dan in Monza en Spa. Ik voel me comfortabel en ben vrij competitief. We starten vanaf een positie waar punten mogelijk zijn."

"De race wordt ontzettend zwaar en tricky", vervolgt de Spanjaard. "Dat geldt voor de coureur, maar ook voor de techniek. Je mag als rijder geen foutje maken, dus we moeten zorgen dat we de perfecte wedstrijd rijden. Hopelijk kunnen we wat puntjes pakken. Inhalen is erg lastig hier, dus de posities zijn na de start voor een groot deel al bepaald. Je moet hier wat geluk hebben, ook met safety cars. Daar hoop ik op."
