Samenwerking met Mercedes lonkt voor Manor

Mercedes heeft toegegeven dat Manor F1 Team een interessante kandidaat is voor een eventuele samenwerking. Het Britse achterhoedeteam zou in 2016 dan één jaar oude motoren van de Duitse autofabrikant gaan gebruiken. Voorwaarde is wel dat Renault het team van Lotus koopt, waardoor het contract tussen Lotus en Mercedes de prullenbak in kan.

Het Duitse merk heeft namelijk naast Lotus ook Force India en Williams als klanten. Mercedes moet dus nog wat ruimte creëren voor Manor. Motorsportbaas Toto Wolff deelde aan persbureau SID mede: "Als Lotus naar Renault over gaat, dan is Manor een interessant team. Het is een echte renstal met een solide financiering. Misschien slaan ze voor het chassis de handen ineen met Williams, dat zou ze nog sneller maken."

Mercedes-teampresident Niki Lauda verklapte ook dat Mercedes volgend jaar nog steeds drie klantenteams van motoren zal voorzien. De bedoeling is dat een van de twee stoeltjes bij Manor gereserveerd wordt voor Mercedes-protegé Pascal Wehrlein. Al is Wolff terughoudend. "Hoe belangrijk dit onderwerp ook is, Pascal dient zich te focussen op het winnen van de DTM-titel. Daarna zullen we zien of hem in de Formule 1 onder kunnen brengen."

    Compleet OT: weet iemand waar je de lap times van de GP kan vinden, zodat je bijv Sainz met Verstappen kan vergelijken lap by lap?

      Aan Manor hebben ze ook niks,die rijden met een museum motor rond,dus voor de data hadden ze niks aan hun.

    Daar hebben we hem weer Wehrlein. Er zijn naar mijn idee jongens die eerder een kans verdienen dan deze coureur. Ocon zit bijvoorbeeld ook in de Mercedes Group. Oliver Rowland is leider in WSR 3,5. Zo maar eens 2 coureurs die wat mij betreft hoger in aanzien staan dan Wehrlein. Relevante Single-Seater ervaring en meer racer. Maar goed, dat is mijn mening.

      Al een hele tijd niet meer, hij is bij Lotus op een dood spoor geraakt en vanaf dat moment heeft hij de steun van Mercedes.
