Officieel: Perez verlengt contract bij Force India

Force India heeft snel gehandeld om de geruchten rondom Sergio Perez in de kiem te smoren. De Indiase renstal was eigenlijk van plan om in Mexico de contractverlenging van de Mexicaan aan te kondigen, maar het gespeculeer over een transfer naar Lotus/Renault nam toe en de onrust daardoor ook. Perez is nu officieel bevestigd bij Force India voor 2016.

Perez: "Het doet me deugd om te bevestigen dat ik bij Force India blijf. Dat betekent dat ik me volledig kan concentreren op mijn belangrijkste taken, zijnde de auto besturen en punten pakken voor het team. Sinds mijn komst hier ben ik gegroeid als coureur en ik ben van mening dat ik het beste in mezelf naar boven heb gehaald. Ik heb altijd aangegeven dat ik me wil vestigen in een bepaald team en dit is het juiste moment om mijn toekomst te verbinden aan Force India."

Teambaas Vijay Mallya: "Ik ben heel blij dat Sergio bijgetekend heeft bij Force India. Hij heeft het fantastisch voor ons gedaan, waardoor we weten waartoe hij in staat is als wij hem een competitieve auto geven. Zijn attitude is ook prijzenswaardig en hij geeft nooit op. Je hoeft zijn resultaten van de voorbije drie races maar te bekijken om te beseffen dat hij in topvorm verkeert."
