Nico Hülkenberg was vanochtend tijdens de kwalificatie in Japan net niet snel genoeg voor Q3. De Duitser eindigde uiteindelijk op de elfde positie, maar zal morgen drie plekken naar achteren worden gezet vanwege zijn ongeluk met Felipe Massa vorige week in Singapore.

"Het is jammer om Q3 met zo´n klein verschil te missen," laat de Force India-coureur weten. "Maar ik kan niet echt klagen over mijn performance vandaag. Mijn kwalificatie ging best goed en heb de limiet op kunnen zoeken. Jammer genoeg was dat niet genoeg, maar we hebben wel alles gegeven."

"We weten niet echt wat wij morgen kunnen verwachten. Het midden van het veld zit dicht bij elkaar en het zal lastig worden om punten te scoren. Ik had gehoopt iets beter te kwalificeren in verband met mijn straf, vooral omdat het hier moeilijk is om in te halen. Het wordt ook interessant om te zien wat het gebrek aan rijden op de vrijdag betekent. De setup voelde vandaag goed aan, maar er zijn momenteel nog veel onbekenden."
