Mansell: "Button verdient een auto waarmee hij kan winnen"

Jenson Button verdient de kans om weer in een winnende auto te zitten. Dat is de mening van Nigel Mansell. De wereldkampioen van 1992 verwacht dat het team van McLaren, na een teleurstellend eerste seizoen met Honda, sterker terug zal komen in 2016. 

"Ik denk dat Honda deze winter grote stappen kan maken", aldus Mansell in gesprek met BBC Sport. "Iedereen bij McLaren werkt zo hard, het is een geweldig team. Ze hebben in het verleden al zoveel gewonnen en dat zullen ze ook doen in de toekomst. Daar heb ik geen twijfels over."

Dit seizoen valt er echter weinig te winnen voor het team uit Woking en de rijders uitten openlijk hun frustraties over de tegenvallende resultaten. Volgens Mansell is dat niet meer dan normaal voor topcoureurs als Fernando Alonso en Jenson Button. 

"Alonso en Button zijn een formidabel team, alleen ze moeten een auto en krachtbron hebben die topprestaties aankan. Wanneer je echter in de hoek zit waar de klappen vallen, moet je blijven werken. Hopelijk praat men binnen twaalf maanden vol lof over het team en over Honda. Ik hoop oprecht dat ze komend jaar races kunnen winnen."

    Over McLaren gesproken: Volgens de Engelse site Readmotorsport en de Spaanse site 6cero zou Alonso een ultimatum hebben neergelegd bij het team: Of zijn eisen worden ingewilligd, of hij vertrekt:
    "The first of the three conditions would be to remove Arai from head command at Honda, who ruined the reputation of the team with the lack of actual evolution on their part of the project, and so should no longer be in charge.

    Secondly, Alonso requested to have full access to the 2016 car development and says that a brand new car is required since the current one can be exploited little or nothing nor does it suit Alonso’s driving style. Mainly due to the various weaknesses the car has currently.

    Finally, there will be two clauses. First, will be dependent on pre-season testing and the second one will be dependent on the opening round in Melbourne. If the car fails to enter Q3 and/or fight for the top positions, Fernando Alonso could possibly be leaving McLaren, and maybe even leave the sport."

    Alonso ook, Vettel ook. Zolang die Mercedessen op deze manier de sport blijven domineren is er om de titelstrijd simpelweg geen fuck aan, wie er WK wordt althans. Gelukkig zijn de gevechten in het middenveld aantrekkelijk.

      De verschillen tussen de teams worden gewoon te groot sowieso. Kijk maar eens naar de stand in het kampioenschap; Mercedes, Mercedes, Ferrari, Ferrari, Williams, Williams, Red Bull, Red Bull.
      Die rijden na 1 of 2 ronden achter elkaar aan met 5 seconde ertussen. Het is dat er soms nog iemand z'n kwalificatie verpest anders hadden we wel heel weinig inhaalacties dit jaar..
