Mercedes ontfermt zich over toekomst Wehrlein

Door de overeenkomst tussen Manor F1 Team en Mercedes-Benz is de kans op een Formule 1-debuut voor Pascal Wehrlein in 2016 verder toegenomen. De Duitser, momenteel koploper in de DTM, geldt al langer als belangrijke kandidaat voor een stoeltje bij Manor. Met de steun van Mercedes moet dat toch mogelijk zijn.

Wehrlein legt zijn lot volledig in handen van het Duitse merk. "Toto Wolff beslist het vervolgtraject voor mijn loopbaan. Als hij een manier vindt om me onder te brengen in de Formule 1, dan ga ik daar met alle plezier op in. Het meest ideale zou natuurlijk bij het fabrieksteam van Mercedes zijn, maar daar is geen plek. Dan moet je kijken wat de alternatieven zijn."

Wolff tegenover Auto Bild over de situatie van Wehrlein: "Pascal is op dit moment lijstaanvoerder in de DTM en daar behoort zijn focus te liggen. Maar hij heeft alles in zich van een Formule 1-coureur. Het is dan ook ons verlangen om hem ergens te stallen. Er moet dan vanzelfsprekend wel ergens een plekje voor hem zijn."

      Max zit door Mercedes met zo'n pak veren in zijn reet dat het mij niet zou verbazen dat ook Mercedes na 2016 gewoon aan Max gaat lopen sleuren om hem als vervanger van Rosberg binnen te halen.

      @Lars75 Mercedes had eind 2012 Verstappen al gevraagd voor hun te tekenen, Verstappen en z'n paps hadden destijds Mercedes afgewezen, blijkbaar door de slechte resultaten van Mercedes toen. Mercedes gaat voor eigenlijk talent en eigen landgenoot, en ik geloof niet dat ze Verstappen nog een keer gaan vragen terwijl hij ze heeft afgewezen voor RBR wat heel normaal was toen eind 2012.

      @CONCALVES, volgens mij is Mercedes pas om de diensten van Verstappen gaan hengelen nadat hij races begon te winnen in de F3. Mercedes kon hem geen stoeltje garanderen in de F1 en Red Bull wel. Dat was de reden waarom ze nee hebben gezegd tegen Mercedes. 2012, kom op man. Toen was hij nog volop aan het karten.

    Wehrlein heeft me iets teveel weghebben van Paul Di Resta. Indrukwekkend in de opstartklasses, dan in de DTM verzeild geraakt, alsnog de F1 in maar eigenlijk het momentum al wat voorbij.

      Paul di Resta vond zichzelf vooral heel erg goed. Ik vermoed dat die nog steeds niet begrijpt hoe het kan dat hij niet meer actief is in de F1....

      di Resta is ook erg goed en goed genoeg voor de F1, dus daar is ook niets verkeerd aan om dat te denken!

      @ Nothingbutthetruth Klopt ergens wat je zegt. Was geen slechte coureur, maar als ik hem zo af en toe hoor praten denk ik idd dat die uit de hoogte doet. Hij had zo de plek van zijn neefje bij Ganassi over kunnen nemen, Dario had zelfs al tests en dergelijke geregeld. Uiteindelijk greep hij terug op wat James Hunt ooit zei : Indycar is voor club racers.... Niks ten nadele van James Hunt, man was legendarisch. Maar een Di Resta heeft niet het maximale uit zijn F1 carriere gehaald.

    Vrees dat Wehrlein niet genoeg licentiepunten heeft om F1 te mogen rijden.
    Vandoorne, Magnussen en Palmer hebben dit wel
