McLaren-Honda: “Update is beter dat verwacht”

McLaren gaat een stuk positiever de toekomst tegemoet. Dat 2015 tot nog toe uiterst teleurstellend is voor het team uit Woking is geen nieuws. McLaren en motorpartner Honda hadden het totaalplaatje niet helemaal voor elkaar bij de start van het seizoen en in de ontwikkeling werden niet zulke stappen gemaakt waar vooraf op gehoopt was.

Maar afgelopen weekend in Sochi zou weleens een kantelpunt zijn geweest voor het Britse team. Fernando Alonso had de beschikking over een verbeterde Honda-motor, maar moest daardoor wel weer de race vanaf de laatste startrij aanvangen. In Austin over anderhalve week heeft de Spanjaard daar hopelijk geen last van.

Teambaas Eric Boullier is zeer te spreken over de laatste update. “Deze update is beter dan wij hadden verwacht. We hebben het pakket tijdens de afgelopen race getest en de resultaten waren beter dan wat we van tevoren hadden berekend.”

Ook Honda’s Yasuhisa Arai is tevreden over de update. “De nieuwe motorupdate doet het beter dan wij hadden verwacht. Alleen is de motor nog lang niet zo goed als dat wij willen. Het grootste probleem zit hem in de ERS. We hebben veel te weinig power op de rechte stukken.”

    Langzamerhand, komt het goed in het motor geweld. Maar denk dat Mercedes en Ferrari ook niet stil zitten. En dan nog de 12 tokens van Renault die tactisch ingezet gaan worden.

      Tactisch inzetten betekent bij Renault zoveel als het veiligstellen van de zesde plek van Lotus en er dus alles aan doen om te zorgen dat STR geen gevaar kan vormen doordat ze bijvoorbeeld ineens een goede motor achterin hebben liggen.

      onzin, Renault deed al veel te weinig voor Lotus weer in beeld kwam en Red Bul begon te klagen.

      Alonso reed in de race weer met de oude motor. Ze wouden de race schijnbaar niet achteraan beginnen met de nieuwe motor.

      Ja, het artikel is onvolledig: "Observers said the power unit had a notably different engine note, but the team decided to shelve it after practice so that Alonso could use it to best effect next weekend at Austin without the handicap of grid penalties."

      Als het goed is reed alonso alleen in fp1 met de nieuwe motor en het schijnt dat het geluid anders is.

    Tja als je niks van de update verwacht en het blijkt toch 1% beter te zijn is het inderdaad beter dan verwacht.

    Misschien dat de motor enkel in FP1 werd gebruikt..
    Vanaf fp2 is Kazuka terug gemonteerd (motor die vanaf België werd ingezet)

      Ik zou zeggen bekijk het bericht van Sjaakafhaak even. Ik las ook van verschillende technici dat het geluid merkbaar verschillend was.
