Mercedes legt uit waarom andere teams niet beschikken over laatste motorupdate

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff heeft verteld waarom de klantenteams niet de beschikking hebben over de laatste motorupdate. Ook de laatste vier races zullen Williams, Force India en Lotus geen motorupdate krijgen van Mercedes.

In Monza kregen Lewis Hamilton en Nico Rosberg de motorupdate van Mercedes, maar de drie klantenteams rijden al sinds de seizoenstart met dezelfde versie. Volgens Wolff heeft Mercedes alleen de middelen om het fabrieksteam van verbeterde motoren te voorzien.

"Toen de motor van Nico in Monza kapot ging wisten we niet eens of we voor hem wel een nieuwe motor ter beschikking hadden. Toen hebben we besloten om alleen het fabrieksteam in de rest van het seizoen de beschikking te geven over de nieuwere motor", aldus Wolff.

"In Monza hebben we 7 tokens gebruikt, maar dat betekent niet dat de motoren veel sneller zijn. Dat was ook niet het allerbelangrijkste van deze update. Het is een indicatie van de 2016-motor. Deze update heeft kleine verbeteringen. Deze motor zal slechts ietsje harder gaan en ietsje langer mee gaan, maar het is niet een miraculeuze stap voorwaarts. We kunnen deze motor gewoon niet aan alle teams leveren", aldus de teambaas van Mercedes.

    Hoop dat het volgend jaar gewoon, allemaal dezelfde spec motor hebben. Dan hebben we niet van deze (Vul maar iets is) verhalen.

      Het is een utopie om te verwachten dat welke fabrikant dan ook alle teams in één keer wat de laatste generatie van voorzien.

      Ze mogen geen 2015 spec geven, maar staat het wel dicht genoeg geschreven dat ze ook geen updates achter mogen liggen?

      OT ik begreep dat het vooral aan de krukas ligt die extreem veel tijd kost om te produceren.

      Tja FIA zou het gewoon moeten verplichten.

      Mercedes wil motor verbeteren? Prima: maar wel voor alle teams waar je aan levert.

      Sterker nog: ik zou willen dat motorfabrikanten voor een vastgestelde maximale prijs aan alle teams desgewenst (dezelfde) motor moeten leveren. En eigenlijk zouden de motoren als controle eerst aan de FIA verstrekt moeten worden die ze daarna doorgeeft aan de betrokken teams. Daarmee wordt cheaten beeindigd.
      Stel dat Pirelli een eigen raceteam gaan starten: en eigen raceteam snellere banden geeft dan de concurrenten. Dat kan gewoon niet.

      Geen fabrikant kan natuurlijk aan alle teams leveren, maar daardoor worden ze gedwongen om niet te goed te worden zodat er concurrentie blijft.

    Volgens Wolff heeft Mercedes alleen de middelen om het fabrieksteam van verbeterde motoren te voorzien.

    Dan is het raar dat ze allemaal de zelfde prijs betalen voor de motor. Nu betalen de klanten wel mee, maar de fabrieksteam profiteerd er het meest van.

    Al moet ik er wel bij zeggen dat het (in dit specifieke geval) eerder een verslechtering lijkt dan een verbetering als je kijkt naar de problemen die Nico en Lewis sindsdien hebben.

    Slecht verhaal van toto.

    Hoe lang geleden is die nieuwe motor inmiddels geïntroduceerd? Een week of 4 geleden op monza?
    Lijkt mij dat je in 4 weken tijd prima een aantal van die motoren kunt produceren.

    Uitermate vaag verhaal. Eigenlijk vind ik dat de FIA paal en perk aan dit soort praktijken moet stellen. Of iedereen krijgt een update, of niemand. Als Mercedes hiertoe niet in staat is (of moeten we spreken van onwil?) moet ze die update gewoon in de pocket houden. Nu laat de FIA steeds meer toe dat het één team als marionettenspeler kan optreden. Kortom, de zoveelste verwording van F1. Om met Carice te spreken: Houdt het dan nooit op?!?!

      Eens, maar wanneer ze dat instellen.. dan levert Mercedes gewoon niet meer aan klantenteams, aangezien dat hen een nadeel oplevert.

      De F1 moet gewoon haar best doen meerdere motorleveranciers te krijgen, met 2 extra is er keuze zat.. mits die motoren niet onderdoen
