Wehrlein gaat in gesprek met Wolff over F1-toekomst

Pascal Wehrein heeft komende week een gesprek met Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff. De twee gaan overleggen wat volgend jaar de beste keuze is voor de Duitser die deze week zijn 21ste verjaardag vierde.

Wehrlein staat momenteel ruimschoots aan de leiding in de DTM en lijkt de jongste kampioen ooit te gaan worden in de klasse. Wehrlein is een product van de Mercedes-opleiding en geldt als een grote belofte voor de toekomst.

Het lijkt er op dat de Duitser de DTM na dit seizoen vaarwel zegt en een overstap maakt naar de Formule 1, waar hij wordt gelinkt aan een racestoeltje bij Manor. Manor maakt vanaf volgend jaar gebruik van Mercedes-motoren en zou wellicht in ruil daarvoor het Mercedes-talent een racestoeltje aanbieden.

“Het zal wel moeilijk worden om de DTM gedag te zeggen. We zijn erg succesvol dit jaar en ik heb het hier erg naar mijn zin. Maar mijn droom is altijd de Formule 1 geweest en ik zal er alles aan doen om dat te bereiken”, aldus Wehrlein.

Wehrlein kan aankomend weekend de DTM-titel binnenslepen en daarmee voldoet de Duitser aan alle taken die hij heeft gekregen van Wolff. Na de race op Hockenheim zal Wehrlein een gesprek voeren met Wolff wat cruciaal zal zijn voor zijn toekomst. “We gaan bekijken welke opties er zijn en wat het beste is voor mijn toekomst. Het kan ook zomaar zijn dat ik nog een jaar doorga in de DTM.”

  Er staan nog een 40tal potentiele F1rijders klaar met meer talent en mogelijkheden en toch blijft Mercedes er door dik en dun voor deze jongen gaan.

  Nou als Nico het niet kan worden dan gaat wehrlein het ook niet doen voor Mercedes. Dan kunnen ze beter Hulkenberg halen. En als je echt zekerheid wil dan Vettel maar ja :P

  Exact James Hunt. Zo overschat deze jongen. Ego dat gestreeld word door Toto Wolff. Met bijvoorbeeld een Ocon in je opleidingsteam heb je sowieso een betere keus. Dhr. Wolff wil als wolf in schaapskleren zo'n beetje alles bepalen in de F1. 3e auto's, waar zijn vrouw rijd, wie er bij Manor moet rijden, etc.etc. Hij komt over als een aardige kerel, maar in werkelijkheid...

  Vreemd, Manor heeft pertinent gezegd dat Mercedes totaal geen invloed heeft op hun rijderskeuze. Toch verschijnt hier weer een bericht dat dat wel zo zou zijn. De enige mogelijklheid voor Wehrlein om te racen is dezelfde als bij elk ander racer. De juiste sponsors achter zich hebben. Als Mercedes wil sponsoren kan hij een zitje krijgen. Het leveren van de motor heeft hier niets mee te maken. Dit is weer zo'n komkommertijd bericht.

  Een Duitser in een Duitse auto als WK F1?
  Ja dat kan, maar die heet dan niet Werhlein maar wel Vettel of Hulkenberg.
  Zelfs Rosberg kan in een superieure Mercedes kampioen worden maar dan mogen ze hem geen topper als teamgenoot geven.
  En.....als ze toch jong Duits talent zoeken. Zoek het dan niet in de DTM maar in de GP3 bv. Marvin Kirchhöfer heeft volgens mij meer in zijn mars als Pascal Wehrlein en zal ook vlugger aan de nodige superlicentiepunten raken;
