Force India stelt windtunnel update uit in afwachting van nieuwe regels

Force India wacht nog even met het verbeteren van de windtunnel. Het team wacht eerst af wat de nieuwe regels voor 2017 zullen zijn. Het Indiase team verhuisde eerder dit jaar naar de oude windtunnel van Toyota. In deze windtunnel kan Force India tests uitvoeren met schaalmodellen van 50 procent. Volgens de regels moet een schaalmodel echter 60 procent zijn van de originele bolide.

Het team wacht nog met het aanpassen van de windtunnel totdat bekend is wat de nieuwe reglementen zijn voor 2017 en verder. “We moeten zeker zijn dat we ons kunnen veroorloven wat we aanpassen. Dat heeft ook met budget te maken. Het andere aspect heeft te maken met tijd. Is het logisch om de windtunnel een upgrade te geven voor 2016 als de regels in 2017 weer drastisch veranderen? We zijn nu aan het evalueren wat wij het beste kunnen doen”, aldus Bob Fernley.

Fernley zegt dat de verhuizing naar de oude Toyota windtunnel de sleutel van het succes is van de huidige B-versie van de VJM08. Sergio Perez pakte afgelopen weekend in Rusland het derde podium in de historie van het team. En de huidige vijfde plaats in het kampioenschap is de beste prestatie van het team sinds het is overgegaan in Force India.

“De nieuwe windtunnel heeft ervoor gezorgd dat wij nu een gelijkwaardige windtunnel hebben met teams als Williams. De windtunnel in Brackley was erg beperkt. We zijn nog niet helemaal waar we willen zijn, want we testen nu nog met schaalmodellen van 50 procent. Hopelijk kunnen we snel overgaan naar schaalmodellen van 60 procent”, aldus Fernley.

Force India is voorbeeld hoe je een team succesvol kunt runnen op een relatief klein budget. VJM heeft altijd ingezien dat goede rijders hebben essentieel is en daar prijs ik hem echt voor. Force India heeft in mijn ogen de 3de beste line-up van het hele veld en dat voor een team dat geen idiote salarissen kan betalen. Als Force India fabriekssteun in de toekomst zou krijgen zou het zo voor de titel kunnen strijden. Ook blij om te horen dat Perez en Hulkenberg blijven want dat zijn echt twee aanwinsten voor de F1. Lekker relaxed en benaderbaar.

  Al zullen de industriëlen in India wel gek van VJM zijn geworden. Iedere keer boden ze miljoenen als er een stoeltje voor Chandok of Kartikeyan zou zijn, maar die miljoenen mochten ze in kansloze teams als HRT stoppen. Mij maakt het niet uit, heb altijd wel een zwak voor FI gehad

  Ik vind dat ze het altijd wel goed doen tegenover de pers. Als je dingen zegt als ''De F1 gaat wel verder zonder Red Bull'' en je voegt direct ''Maar ook wel zonder FI, trouwens'' eraan toe dan geef je voor mij aan dat je zelfkennis hebt, en dat vind ik wel mooi om te zien.
