Alexander Rossi voelt geen extra druk voor race in Austin

Alexander Rossi debuteerde in Singapore in de Formule 1 en staat volgende week voor de derde keer aan de start van een Grand Prix. Voor de Amerikaan extra bijzonder, omdat de race in zijn thuisland is. Rossi zegt echter geen extra druk te voelen.

Na de back-to-back races in Singapore en Japan gaf Rossi in Rusland het stuurtje weer over aan Roberto Merhi. Volgende week in de Verenigde Staten zal Rossi weer deelnemen in de Manor. Ook tijdens de Grands Prix van Mexico en Brazilië mag de Amerikaan namens Manor uitkomen in de Formule 1. Tijdens de laatste Grand Prix van het jaar in Abu Dhabi is het Merhi die weer plaatsneemt in de Manor. De reden van de wisselingen is omdat Rossi in Rusland en Abu Dhabi nog deelneemt aan de GP2-races.

Voor de Amerikanen is het de eerste keer sinds Scott Speed in 2007 dat er weer een landgenoot actief is in de Formule 1. Rossi ziet het als een eer om zijn thuisrace te mogen rijden: “Het is een eer om de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten te mogen rijden voor thuispubliek. Het circuit is geweldig. Het is werkelijk waar een van mijn favoriete circuits. Het is een mix van enkele geweldige banen in Europa. Ik heb hier in het verleden alleen nog maar getest, dus ik kijk er naar uit om hier binnenkort te gaan racen.”

“Ik heb geen last van extra druk. Op een gegeven moment leer je met dit soort situaties omgaan. Ik ben er enorm trots op om als Amerikaan actief te kunnen zijn in de Formule 1. Ik hoop dat ik in 2016 een stoeltje kan krijgen voor het hele seizoen. De komende weken ga ik er alles aan doen om Manor vooruit te helpen en mijn taken goed uit te voeren”, besluit Rossi.
