Ricciardo: "Update Renault is gridpenalty niet waard"

Aanstaand weekend komt Renault met een upgrade van haar power unit.De upgrade zou moeten zorgen voor meer vermogen en minder brandstofverbruik. De update is beschikbaar voor zowel Red Bull Racing als Scuderia Toro Rosso. Red Bull-coureur Daniel Ricciardo laat in de aanloop naar de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten weten waarschijnlijk geen gebruik te maken van de update. 

Het installeren van de verbeterde power unit levert voor de coureurs van Red Bull en Toro Rosso een gridpenalty op. Ricciardo laat weten een gridpenalty niet te zien zitten: "Het is mooi dat er een verbeterde motor beschikbaar is en dat we die kunnen inzetten, maar mij is het dat niet waard. Achteraan starten en naar voren rijden zit er ondanks de verbeterde motor hier niet in. Het verschil in vermogen is niet zo groot dat ik de gok ga nemen. Mocht Renault me andere informatie geven dan ga ik hem misschien gebruiken, maar op basis van de informatie die ik nu heb is het dat niet waard."

    Zou het verwachte weer ook van invloed zijn op deze beslissing? kan een onvoorspelbare race worden. Ik zei gisteren gelijk doen die motorwissel, maar kom er op terug.

      je kan misschien 1 toende per ronde winnen maar je loopt ook het risicpo dat die update minder betrouwbaar is.

      Geld zeker voor TR. Misschien kunnen ze met het verwachte weer voor een positieve verrassing zorgen. Als je de motorwissel wel doen weet je zeker dat je achteraan moet beginnen en kun je niet profiteren van de weersomstandigheden. Ik heb echt zin in dit weekend.

    Ferrari start ook al achterin door motorwissels, dus daarom willen ze denk ik niet wisselen.
    tenzij er een motor er mee stopt in de VT

    Ik ben erg benieuwt of een van de twee teams gebruik gaat maken van de nieuwe motor. Ik zou als ik het voor het zeggen had op zijn minst 1 rijder met de nieuwe motor laten rijden. Dan weten ze ook wat het verschil echt is, testbanken zijn leuk voor te testen, maar daar krijg je nooit het complete beeld van. Je kunt op de testbank niet de invloeden testen die de wagen meemaakt op een baan. Ik denk dat het voor RBR belangrijke info zal opleveren over het motor probleem van komend jaar.

    Renault zegt dat het ding 3 tienden winst gaat leveren. Red Bull zegt max 1,5 tienden. Dus ze zitten, ondanks dat ze weer on speaking terms schijnen te zijn, nog niet op 1 lijn...
