Jos Verstappen: "Max moet zich concentreren en auto op de baan houden"

Vlak voor de start van de Grand Prix van Amerika sprak Olav Mol met de vader van Max Verstappen. Jos reageerde op de natte omstandigheden die dit weekend het circuit in Austin plagen.

Jos: "Max ging in de eerste deel van de kwalificatie erg goed, maar in de tweede deel had Max meer moeite. Hij kreeg een ander setje regenbanden van het team, maar vanaf het begin had hij minder tractie en meer overstuur. Als je hier last van hebt, en gezien de regen, krijg je niet het vertrouwen in de auto. Je zag aan de andere coureurs dat ze moeite hadden de auto op de baan te houden, maar gelukkig maakte Max maar een kleine uitstap. Hij blokkeerde steeds zijn voorwielen. Het belangrijkste is dan nu ook vooral dat hij vertrouwen in de auto krijgt."

"Tijdens het einde van de tweede sessie zag je ook dat het steeds harder begon te regenen, daarom is deze tijd ook de maximale haalbare voor Max in de kwalificatie. Voor Max is dit zijn eerste complete regenrace in de Formule 1. Daarom is het ook van het grootste belang dat hij zich goed concentreert. Je hoeft echt niet elke ronde op 100% te rijden, maar af en toe er net onder. Max zijn voornaamste taak is de auto op het circuit te houden en te finishen", aldus Jos Verstappen.

  eerste paar rondjes denk ik, daarna gewoon droog. Maar om in te halen moet je toch van de droge lijn af, ik verwacht toch wel 1 of 2 foutjes. Hopelijk houdt Max hem gewoon keurig op de baan en dan zijn er best een aantal puntjes mogelijk.

Starten op intermediates en na 20 rondes naar slicks. Dan komt de power om de hoek kijken en wordt het weer frustreren met die kut Renaults

  Omdat het heel bleef? Of kwam het puur op intelligentie en rijderskunst van Max aan dat er op de rechte stukken nog redelijk verlies gepakt kon worden? Die motor is een blamage maar ga jij er maar lekker fan zijn. ;)

  Ik ben een fan. Zeker, dat zal ik alles behalve ontkennen. Maar ik ben daarentegen ook een realist.
  Natuurlijk heeft Max niet de beste PU. Maar om de Renault van de afgelopen tijd als Franse rotzooi te bestempelen vind ik gewoon erg ver gaan.
  De Renault is naar mijn inziens "redelijk". Alleen dan heb je Mercedes en Ferarri die gewoon ontzettend goed zijn. Daardoor lijkt de Renault slecht te zijn, al noem ik het liever gewoon minder goed.
  Max heeft het gewoon ontzettend goed gedaan. En dat met "Franse rotzooi"....

  Die rijdt dan ook met de Mercedes.
  
  De laatste races is de Renault inderdaad ok. Voorheen was het huilen met de pet op, want dat ding ging om de haverklap stuk.
