Frustrerende kwalificatie brengt Lotus niet verder dan Q2

Pastor Maldonado en Romain Grosjean beleefden weinig plezier aan de kwalificatie in Abu Dhabi. Pastor Maldonado kwam niet verder dan de dertiende positie, terwijl bij Grosjean de auto hem in de steek liet. De Fransman besloot zijn laatste kwalificatie in dienst van Lotus op de vijftiende positie.

"Op voorhand rekenden we al op een lastige sessie, dus de dertiende positie is zo slecht nog niet", nuanceert Maldonado de situatie. "Je heb hier veel downforce nodig en dat is nou net het gebied waar wij op tekort schieten. Het is de laatste race van het seizoen, dus ik zal tijdens de race nog één keer alles geven."

Grosjean verging het nog slechter dan Maldonado. Na problemen tijdens Q2, keerde de Fransman als ridder te voet terug naar de pits. "Dit was ontzettend frustrerend, maar het is het einde van het seizoen en ik denk dat mijn versnellingsbak ongeveer drie keer rond de wereld is geweest", vertelt Grosjean. "Ik doe alles wat ik kan tijdens de race. Ik laat de motor opschroeven naar volledig vermogen, dus we zullen zien."
