'F1-kalender met 21 races vergt veel van teams'

De Formule 1-kalender voor 2016 bevat een recordaantal Grands Prix. 21 races staan er volgend jaar op het programma. De limiet stond altijd op twintig evenementen, maar de World Motor Sport Council ging akkoord met ophoging naar 21 Grands Prix.

Zodoende is er ruimte gecreëerd voor een nieuw evenement in Azerbeidzjan en de terugkeer van Duitsland. Mercedes-motorsportbaas Toto Wolff luidt de alarmklokken. De grens is wel bereikt. "Met negentien races per jaar vergden we fysiek en mentaal al heel veel van onze werknemers."

"Als je het mij vraagt, is meer eigenlijk niet mogelijk. We zitten tegen het plafond aan. Dit is complexe materie. Misschien moeten we extra personeel aannemen om ze elkaar af te laten wisselen en zo rust te gunnen. We willen de maximale performance leveren en dat kan niet als de teamleden 365 dagen per jaar moet werken."

    Valt het nog meer mensen op dat in bijna elk nieuwsbericht inmiddels een reactie Toto Wolff vermeld staat? :D

    Verder snap ik best dat voor de monteurs 21 GP's wel zo ongeveer de max is, ik als fan zie het liefst zoveel mogelijk races natuurlijk. :)

    Met hem eens. Dit kun je haast niet verlangen van het personeel dat hun vrouw en kinderen met een beetje mazzel 150 dagen per jaar 's avonds ziet.

      Het is Andes wel veel meer geworden door de jaren heen en bij d F1 teams willen ze alleen ervaren toppers hebben. Die hebben vaak al een vaste partner of gezin en ook al zijn die wel wat gewend, ook daar komt ergens een grens.
      Dit geluid van Wolff hoor je bij alle teams, dus ga er maar vanuit dat het klopt.

    Zou zeggen kijk eens naar de usa met name de nasscar, dus waarom zo'n twijfel zaaien, die mannen racen bijna elk weekend en rijden heel wat meer kilometers tegen bijna zelfde snelheid !

      Yep, maar daar hoeft men logistiek veel minder vreemde toeren uit te halen dan bij het F1 circus.
      Laten we het zo zeggen, er gaan F1 monteurs naar de NASCAR als de F1 hen wat te veel wordt, niet andersom

    Kom op Toto, een wisselwerking met de staf bestaat in elke grote onderneming, dat ze enkel de besten willen zien presteren kan ik begrijpen maar voor mij is niemand onmisbaar

    Voor het testverbod waren ze ook continu aan het rijden. De rijkere teams hadden meerdere teams met technici, de minder rijke zette hetzelfde personeel vaker in. Dat moet nu toch ook kunnen als het maar om 2 of 3 extra weekenden per jaar gaat?
