McLaren-baas Ron Dennis had geen moeite met een veelbesproken moment van Fernando Alonso dit jaar. De Spanjaard pakte in Brazilië, nadat zijn auto weer eens de geest had gegeven, een stoel van een marshal en ging languit in de zon zitten. Daar is niks op tegen, vindt Dennis.

"Ik moest eerlijk gezegd wel grinniken om dat moment", begint de McLaren-baas. "Alleen maar werken zonder enige lol is ook maar saai. Een beetje humor moet kunnen. De waarheid is dat Fernando net zo hard werkt als hij getalenteerd is. Hij is veel volwassener dan toen hij acht jaar geleden voor ons racete en hij is een van de meest complete coureurs waar ik ooit mee gewerkt heb."

"Zijn contract heeft de duur van drie jaar en bevat geen ontsnappingsclausules, niks. Hij wist dat 2015 een leerjaar zou zijn, hij is hier met open ogen aan begonnen. Fernando weet net zo goed als wij dat we ons samen met Honda flink zullen verbeteren. Hij heeft leukere jaren gekend dan 2015, maar hij beseft ook dat mooie jaren in het verschiet liggen voor McLaren-Honda."
