Ericsson leert van mindere eerste seizoenshelft

Marcus Ericsson sloot zijn tweede seizoen in de Formule 1 met negen WK-punten en een achttiende plaats in het eindklassement. De Zweed tekende vorig jaar in Austin een overeenkomst met het team van Sauber, nadat zijn toenmalige werkgever Caterham onder curatele kwam te staan en de races in Amerika en Brazilië moest missen. Ericsson scoorde in 2014 geen enkel punt in de inferieure Caterham, maar kwam bij Sauber direct in de eerste race 4 WK-punten. Ericsson was met name in de eerste seizoenshelft de mindere ten opzichte van zijn Braziliaanse teamgenoot Felipe Nasr, die in 2015 in de Formule 1 debuteerde.

Terugkijkend op het seizoen heeft Ericsson een oorzaak gevonden voor zijn mindere prestaties: "Ik legde mezelf te veel druk uit, dit zorgde ervoor dat de prestaties er niet beter van werden. Ik wilde soms veel te graag en dat hielp me zeker niet." Halverwege het seizoen wist Ericsson zich te verbeteren en was het verschil met teamgenoot Nasr een stuk kleiner. Ericsson kende in de zomer een periode waarin hij drie keer achter elkaar in de punten reed.

Ericsson is tevreden met de manier waarop hij zich heeft weten te herstellen: "Als je naar mijn seizoensstart kijkt, dan is het lastig om dat te doorbreken. Uit de statistieken bleek ook dat Nasr me steeds te snel af was. Ik ben dan ook blij dat ik mezelf heb weten te herstellen. De manier waarop ik mijn seizoen vorm heb kunnen geven is waar ik het meest tevreden over ben." Ericsson heeft een manier gevonden waarop hij zich beter kan voorbereiden op de races: door kritisch naar zichzelf te kijken.

"Ik was teveel bezig met mijn teamgenoot verslaan en hoe ik het deed ten opzichte van de rest van het veld. Dit leidde me af en uiteindelijk kom je jezelf tegen. Ik heb kritisch naar mezelf gekeken en daar veel van geleerd. Dit seizoen heeft me zeker sterker gemaakt, zeker op mentaal vlak. Dat neem ik mee voor het komende seizoen", aldus Ericsson die in 2016 opnieuw zal racen voor Sauber. Ook Felipe Nasr zal in 2016 de kleuren voor het Zwitserse team verdedigen.

Sorry dat ik dit zeg, maar wat doet zo'n koekenbakker (met alle respect) in de Formule 1?

Ik kan mij geen enkele inhaalmanoeuvre van hem herinneren in 2015. En ik hem geen vertrouwen in de Sauber in 2016, dus ik zie het somber voor hem in.

  @HugoBoss sorry dat ik het zo zeg maar als jij "koekenbakker" zegt dan is dit juist respectloos. Let eer beetje op je taalgebruik. Het is inderdaad niet de beste coureur van het veld maar nog altijd beter dan het merendeel in de autosport. Ik vind het ook niet goed dat er betalende coureurs zijn maar ja anders hadden we een stuk minder teams op de grid staan.
